Am I Free to Stay?

I would assume that "Are we done here?" or "Is there anything else I can help you with?" would be the functional equivalent to "Am I free to go?" when you don't actually want to leave the scene.

I like a good Jackbooted Thug (JBT) thread as much as anybody. But I don't see it here. The supposed encounter is way too contrived. Find an example where something like this actually happened and it might be worth discussing.

I didn't go back through the whole thread, but I read the original post. If I'm sitting there reading a book and a cop comes up and questions me, I'll answer his questions. If he decides to play bad cop that's one thing, but most of the experiences that I've had with cops have been positive. One thing people have to remember. Being a cop is an extremely stressful job. They deal with people who ARE out to get them or start trouble. Think about it. Your a cop and have put people behind bars. You know that these people will eventually get out and may be looking for revenge. I think I would be a little rough around the edges or walk around in condition red. :scrutiny: On the same hand, someone may have called the cops because they saw your gun or your printing and were concerned. I carry and I know I'm not a danger, but they don't. These cops are trained not to let their guard down. Look at all of the cops that have pulled people over, the people act like decent citizens UNTIL the cop turns his back and is shot. Either way, he may just be checking you out. I wouldn't take offence to him until he crosses the harassment line. Then I clam up and ask if I'm being arrested, if not, can I go. If I am it's lawyer time. If they are not being overly aggressive, no problem. Ask him to have a seat and have a coffee on you. You may end up with a friend that can get you out of a pinch later. Additude with a cop hardly ever helps. You would be surprised what they can do to you.

So its only worth discussing it if you say it is? Everybody that says "its never happened, why discuss it, your crazy, etc." just remember, there is a first time for everything.

It's probably, among other things:

Disorderly conduct
Harassment
[Possibly] Menacing
[Possibly] Trespassing, depending upon whether he's asked to leave.

A cop who's not unlawfully bothering anyone should be left alone, just as you should.

I'll bet you're disappointed by that answer...

Yes I am disappointed. It really shows me how naive some people are.

awesome.

So, if I am sitting in a coffee shop reading my gun magazine and an alien tries to abduct me, what should I do? Would shooting one trigger an inter-stellar war? What caliber best penetrates alien goo? What if the alien asks about my gun, or my magazine (dear god, not that!)?

But, it's more complicated than that... Is it a space alien, or just an illegal alien? And, if it is a space alien who is trying to commit an abduction (kidnapping - a felony), does that also make it an illegal alien?

well, coloradokevin, I would say that fits in well with the Zombie threads that always pop up around here, and nobody seems to go high and right over those.

What's probable about it is that it actually happened.
Of course before it was documented and you couldn't deny it, you'd have said THAT wasn't "probable", and before that, stomping on a barmaid's head wasn't "probable", and before that, that a home invasion ring operating inside a police department and ignored by IAD wouldn't have been "probable". Yet, you claim that something FAR less extreme is far LESS "probable".
