ok,

I have been trying to find a good carry gun for a few weeks now. I am a lefty, so need ambi controls. I am also cheap.

What are you opinions on carrying the above mentioned guns. I would like a cz PCR but no ambi controls.

I want .40 only.

Orrrrr should I just keep my Steyr M9 and carry that???

H&K USP's and USP Compacts can be had in southpaw versions. the slide release is not ambi though. but the mag release is, and control lever can be had on either side or both sides if you want.
both come in .40 S&W too. not only that, but you get to be labeled a "Tactical Poseur" at no extra charge!!

The 99 series...walther p99 smith and wesson sw99 are pretty ambi. The mag release functions well. THe decocker isnt needed to be used in a stress situation so reaching over the barrel isnt a bad thing. Slide release....yea could be an issue but its far enough forward I can get to it with my index finger just fine. Takes a bit of heaft but can be done.

id recomend the p99 in 9x19. i got a sw99 in .40s&w and wish I didnt. not that it is a bad gun, just the walther is a .... walther. plus more accessorys out there for the walther. I do like my smith tho, and life time warrenty is nice.

Buy a Steyr M40! I have one and carry it every day. To me it feels the best out of everything I have tried. The H&K's feel like bricks compared to it, the CZ's aren't ambi at all and the S&W to me isn't as good. Being a fellow lefty I can understand your search as I am still searching but for now the Steyr by FAR is the best I have found. The Glocks that I own have been great but take a back seat do to the small slide release lever, tough for me to release with my left fore finger. Besides that for about $300.00 there is nothing even in the ball park of price to compare the Steyr to.

Uh huh....... You wouldnt happen to work at a gun store would you? Hmmmmmm? Ok...sorry...low blow.
CZ's do come ambi....like alot of them. Walther P99 is a stellar gun...HK's a brick? Ok.............................
Steyr is a good gun ....wont say a bad word about them.
The 2 Ive shot had very little recoil and were easily combat accurate....nice trigger also...
Im glad you like your Steyr....and your right for 300$ they are very good..
The Steyr guys I shoot with let me shoot there guns all of the time...mainly because they wont give my PCR's back to me :D
:what: :neener:
Shoot well

If your just wanting to move up to the 40 cal I would say get the Steyr in the M40. You are already familar with it, they are great guns, you could use the holster(s) you already have, they are an excelent value, and there would be little retraining on using the gun as a CCW.

question ....

PCRCCW

I dont get the "do you work in a gun store?" line?

But, no I dont. I am just your local BellTell rep that listens into all you conversations, which has scared me enough to consider CCW.

I would like a smaller package then the Steyr M9. But I think it will be my best bet to just keep what I have for right now.

axeman_g,
The best handgun for the price is the Springfield Armory XD-40. Period. I just traded my two GLOCKs (G21 and G30 with lots of bells and whistles) for two Springfield Armory XD-40 Tacticals. These 5" barreled weapons are just a bit more expensive than the 4" models. Lower in cost than the GLOCKs, but with more and better safety features, the XD is in a class by itself. If your life is on the line, or someone else's is, then only use the best, and that's an XD-40, Service or Tactical.

Regards and Respects,

Fellas;

I'm left handed also. I carry a USPc in .40 & have for years. I had mine retro-fitted by H&K with the ambi operating lever. It works for me. Glocks don't fit my hand well - at all. We don't have a dealer in town carrying the Steyr that I know of. I'd like to pick one up just to see how they do feel.

I simply don't like striker-fired guns for carry, but that's me. My son has the XD-40 & doesn't seem to mind. What I'd like for summer use is a Kahr - with a hammer. No hammer, no sale.

I'm just a mid-fifties tactical poseur with an H&K though, so what do I know? 900F

I have ...

I currently own the Steyr I mentioned above, a walther P22 and the Springfield XD .40. I am looking for something a little smaller. The XD seems a little large to carry here in Atlanta during the summer months. The Steyr is less blocky, but basically the same dimensions. The Walther just doesnt have the power, although I would consider carrying it, I can shoot it well.

I like the mini firestorm .40 but am concerned with durability and quality. Also the compact baby eagle would work.

Yesterday I looked at the USP compact, the SIG 239, Glock 23, CZ 100 etc etc etc. All are just too large.

I like the idea of the XD compact, but block and my gawd it is ugly.

I am an opinionated, cheap, old man tactical poseur I have decided.
