Ammo Availability

I use ammoseek too but if OP doesn’t want to live like you do, then so be it.

He's extrapolating beyond my OP observation. He misread what I was pointing out, something I'm sure all of us have done at one time or another. And yes, I use AmmoSeek to buy bulk unless I can find it locally for about the same cost.

Our Academy in Memphis, near Wolfchase Mall has been stuffed with ammo for over a year.

The only acceptable prices I can find are for bulk quantities- online.

When I pick up a transferred gun at the gun shop I might buy two boxes at the Much higher (per Round) local prices—while waiting for an online order to ship.

It's stacked deep everywhere I've been for quite a while now. Given brick and mortar pricing I'm pretty much only looking to buy online as of right now.
I don't know about that, just checked out buying some 40 S&W (180 grain) online, the shipping costs brought the price up to a par with what my LGS is charging. That was with more than one distributor. The $18 a box of 50 suddenly became a $25 box of 50.........

I look for free shipping as well as no tax. Brings the price down quite a bit. Often have to buy in bulk, though. Can't buy just a box or two.

Free shipping over $250 as well as no tax for my address. Comes out to $15/50 rounds, or 30cpr.

Normally I don't shoot enough to justify buying enough to rate free shipping so buying bulk is pretty rare in my case. That said I'm shooting more 40s and I think I have one box left. SGAmmo has 500 rounds S&B, 180 grain FMJ for $220, just over that price point for free shipping so I ordered it.

Who said you have to shoot a lot to hoard ammo? lol. Invest in brass. Its better to buy and not need to the need and not have, Ok I need to leave to work on my 12 steps for hoarders...

Most calibers seem to be well stocked around here. At least the ones I shoot, 9mm, 38/357 & 5.56. Only common one that is still a little hard to find is 30-30.

lol funny you mention 30-30... Walmart in Yukon OK had like 8 boxes last week lol. It was more expensive than 30-06 lol!

I shoot quite a bit of 45-70, I cant believe its priced at 3 bucks a round. Glad i started reloading several years ago and stocked up on components for all the calibers i reload.
one off our fellow small ffls at our last gunshow had some 45-70 for the low low price of 80 bucks a box lol no thanks...

I'm finding 9mm for 14/50 stacked pretty deep on the shelves. Everything else is still high but I'm not desperate. The only thing I can't find that I want is 300 Sav.

With respect, that's a strategic error, and shortsighted.

If you want the OPTION of shooting, it's good to keep some ammo available. LONG ago, I started doing that. I think I went to the range once, decided I wanted to shoot more than I brought, and 9mm range ammo was something like $20 for a box of 50, even back then. Next time, I picked up a few boxes at Walmart (probably $11 for WWB) on the way. After that, and realizing my son also liked to shoot with me, I started ordering cases online. SGAmmo, Targetsportsusa, Brownells with a coupon, places like that. Wherever I could get my preferred brands (S&B or Fiocchi), for lowest cost to door.
Even if you don't shoot a lot, you make a one-time purchase, say after tax time, and put it up for, say, that year's fun.

And when things are like they have been the past couple years, it's good to have something set aside.

I like being short sighted, it goes along well with my astigmatism.........

In Feb I tried to buy small pistol primers. None were available locally, and after days of searching online I was about to pull the trigger on a South American brand I'd never heard of, and that had very mixed reviews in terms of reliability. I figured if there were some duds in the mix it would be great practice for clearing malfunctions. Just before I bought that stuff I got an alert that a well known dealer had CCI primers. I bought 5,000 of them at a price somewhere just over $100 per 1,000.

Today, on my first search I found 5,000 CCI small pistol primers on sale for $89 per 1,000.

People are running out of their COVID stimulus money, they have to pay their rent now, inflation is eating them up, and they may have to start paying back their student loans...the pressure on the demand side is clearly easing...on just about everything.
