With respect, that's a strategic error, and shortsighted.
If you want the OPTION of shooting, it's good to keep some ammo available. LONG ago, I started doing that. I think I went to the range once, decided I wanted to shoot more than I brought, and 9mm range ammo was something like $20 for a box of 50, even back then. Next time, I picked up a few boxes at Walmart (probably $11 for WWB) on the way. After that, and realizing my son also liked to shoot with me, I started ordering cases online. SGAmmo, Targetsportsusa, Brownells with a coupon, places like that. Wherever I could get my preferred brands (S&B or Fiocchi), for lowest cost to door.
Even if you don't shoot a lot, you make a one-time purchase, say after tax time, and put it up for, say, that year's fun.
And when things are like they have been the past couple years, it's good to have something set aside.
