I was talking with the guys at the range about some potential guns I may post up for sale. Aside from the low ball offers we discussed availability of Springfield 1911 's and 1911's in general. One of the guys stated that he was told there is a 2 year backlog from SA.

When I was home I looked what the local stores had posted online and for 1911's in .45 ACP it was listed as "temporarily unavailable" or "sold out". Saw that with Springfield, Kimber, Sig and custom semi production makers. Rock Island along with Citadel were the ones showing as being available for purchase. Similar theme with 9mm offerings from Sig, HK and Glock for some models.

How is the manufacturing side of guns these days?

While certain manufacturers may not be producing certain specific products (likely due to popularity of other products, or other business decisions to "push" certain items), there doesn't appear to be a "gun shortage" in my area. Shelves at gun shops and tables at gun shows are still full, and there is still a decent used market out there for private sales and the like. Ammo is another story (#surprise). It doesn't make much sense to buy something you will have difficulty feeding.

There is no shortage of guns. It’s doubtful that sellers would say so. Why would they ( $$) ?

Due to various new factors even After the Covid panic, some of which began last August (i.e. the State Dept.) pushing up prices on ammo, many people are buying ammo Before purchasing a gun in a different chambering.
Most people don't have this type of assertive self-initiative.

Such increases in ammo prices have resulted in steep discounts for certain types of semi-auto rifles

RA40: You asked "How is the manufacturing side?" I have two PTR-91 rifles, both manufactured within the last four months. Does this help a bit?

A Customer Service Rep at PTR told me five days ago that his company is now producing much more of their 9mm model, and will then produce a large batch of the very popular "GI" model (.308, HK-91 clone), possibly shipping in four weeks to retailers such as Atlantic Firearms, maybe Bud's Guns etc..

Interesting to learn how it is in other areas. I stopped into a small shop today and the owner relayed he hasn't had much of an issue getting the guns his customers want to order. The SA Loaded I've not seen at the local chain store but this little shop had one and the A1 available. Ammo is accessible and prices have dropped in some common calibers. 9mm was running about $19-$22 where before I saw it reach $32/box. A buddy relayed he bought a half case of .45 ACP for $250. I see the chain store is still priced at $36+/box. It trickles in and out.

I was in my LGS today looking at 1911s, no shortage of SA and Kimber. In fact, the place is as full as I have seen in two years. Now if they could just get an SA35!

my lgs is well stocked with handguns and rifles. they can't have every brand but the selction is good and the shelves are more or less full.

Here in SE PA my LGS, Targetmaster, has a very small variety of handguns an long guns available. The inventory of those items seems to much less than in the last. Before the pandemic it was an exceptionally wee stocked store. A smaller LGS nearby has almost no new inventory. Also used guns are scarce.

Every store here that deals in firearms is well stocked with many brands though are out of some popular budget models. Ammo at the small local gun stores is plentiful but still (mostly) in line with what can be ordered online plus the online shipping costs. It's the larger stores that have half empty ammo shelves at high prices. My primary LGS told me there is currently a glut of shotguns and they don't move out of the store quickly so they're not ordering any more right now.
We have at minimum 18 gun stores in town including some of the big box stores.

Our gun shops are well stocked too. Just not with what im after. :(

That pretty much sums it up. All my regular stores have plenty of guns just most I'm not interested. I want a 1911 in .45acp that has adjustable target sights. Only version I've seen lately is the Girsan but the sights are all blacked out. Lots of Kimbers, SAs, Caniks and Heritage Rough Riders

Locally, the shelves are full--unless you are looking for something specific.
Then, Murphy intervenes.
Or demand.
A year ago the shelves were awash in SIG 365, now, shops might only have two or three.
My local finally has much of the current production Glocks back in stock--but if you wanted a variant, see Murphy, above.

Seems to be very hit and miss so to speak. Wife was wanting one of the newish Ruger MK's. They make a couple with a 10inch tube. She wanted the stainless but was willing to take a blued. There was none to be found in the US. Dealer said could not find one. Watched the auction for a weeks, nothing. She finally gave up and moved on. Before this latest panic there was a literal flood of many choices. So much so some places gave up. 1911's was one. For a while there they were selling some nice examples cheaper than what I paid for the ones I have 15 and 20 years ago. I was tempted to buy a couple they were so damn cheap. AR's was another. Never in my life had I seen that kind of pricing on them. So now new panic, new roadblocks thrown up by choice. Taking the pipe line a long time to fill for many things. One co worker who just turned 21 got his permit, wanted a simple G17. No dealer here had one at all. I showed him a couple on line he could order. Those used to be something EVERYONE who sold guns had at least a couple of.

I ordered a Bergara 17HMR April 2021 and have yet to receive it. Just ordered a Tikka Super Varmint in .223. Both of these guns are new releases, the Bergara in 2021 and the Tikka in 2022. Sure you can find lots of guns on the shelf, but no one I know will take custom orders. Actually, that's not entirely true; they will take the order, but have no idea when it will be shipped and will not guarantee delivery. And certain calibers are very hard to find. My buddy wants to buy a 6mm, but can only find 6.5CM. Truth is, I have not been able to find what I want. It is much worse when searching for reloading components.
