Ammo Shortage?

Hey guys, I was in the sporting goods section at walmart today looking for ammo and the ammo shelf looked like it had been ransacked. All that was left was .380, .40, a box or two of 30-06 and lots of 12 gauge target load shells. No 9mm or .45 at all. So I went to another walmart and was met with pretty much the same thing. :banghead:

Then I decided to go to a proper gunshop. They wanted $35 for winchester white box 9mm , which was all they had. :fire: So needless to say I didn't get any ammo today.

Is anyone else experiencing this ammo shortage? Is there a reason all the 9mm and .45 is drying up?
 
Yeah, the Wal-Mart I go to is now back to bare shelves constantly, the only thing left is Tula and even that's getting scarce.
 
The attempt to create anxiety was started by by several ammo distributors- Over A Year Ago.
They claimed that their ammo costs would go up about 20-25% by May, 2011.

Apparently they are still broadcasting this same tiresome message to their buddies on the phone, but this time their attempt to inspire a buying panic Might Be Working.

It did Not work a year ago, though it was quite successful after the '08 election, was it not?

And they probably want O to be reelected, because they will earn more money. It would not surprise me.
 
Well thats just peachy. I might as well break out the old lee loader and get to work because at this rate, I won't be able to afford to shoot. :mad: I'm really getting sick of politicians.
 
I've seen the Walmart shelves bare in more than one Walmart one day and fully stocked the next......FWIW, I was looking for a particular ammo about a week ago and asked the sporting goods clerk when some would be in. She scanned the barcode with her pricing ray gun and was able to tell me it was in their warehouse and would be shipped in a couple of days.
 
There is no shortage of ammunition or guns near me in Texas.

Not at the range, big sporting goods stores or at Walmart.

Are these stories single incidents? Because it's
just not happening as far as I can see.

Dealers, distributors, etc. are really working hard to create a shortage, it's not working around here. :neener:
 
I went to High School with the guy that heads up the Sporting Goods dept. at our local WM, he told me last week that they are starting to see an increase over normal ammo sales, but so far not to bad. Shelves are staying stocked.
 
No ammo shortage.

My retirement job is for an online ammo seller.

Orders are down.

I will say some manufacturers are playing games With threats of price increases but funny when we say no thanks we will pass the price comes down.
 
My local Walmart is always out of 9mm Luger. I must have caught them on delivery day last week, and got eight boxes. Went back two days later and they were out, and quite low on .40. They had plenty of other calibers. Urban area, so 9mm and .40 are very common.
 
No problem on my end of the country. Plenty of ammo, no problems. I still do have what could be considered a "hoard", but haven't noticed anything outside of the fact it is a little tough to find milsurp 7.62 x 51 for a decent price online.
 
I guess its just my area thats running low. People around here must be stocking up or something.
 
I buy ammo on the net. Prices are way up but I dont have trouble getting anything yet.

Our WalMart never has much in the way of ammo, not many deals to be had there. The local sporting goods stores are generally out of the lower priced stuff, but I have been told that it's not really because sales are up, they just aren't able to get as much from their suppliers....

Hopefully we won't run out of everything this time around. I can reload enough for myself, but when the nephews, brother-in-laws, etc. start coming around I will be hard pressed to keep up. ;)

Here we go again.

Last time, it was when the fella in the oval office was elected, now its months before the election.

That man in the oval office happens to be the best gun, and ammo salesman in history. I wonder if he gets kick backs from the firearms industry?

Last time,everyone jumped on the bandwagon. Many corporations, and a few individuals stuffed their pockets with cash.

During the height of the last "crisis" a friend of mine who makes pistol rounds at ATK (Federal) Anoka plant, said pistol ammo in the warehouses was stacked up to the roof tops. They were running normal work shifts. Supply and demand dictates price.

I remember one guy who had a card table set up in a lot next to a busy McDonald's who was selling 9mm, and 40cal at outrageous prices.

I really don't care what happens. I have enough primers to last two lifetimes. BTW, none were bought during the so called ammo crisis.
 
I think its overblown. I just received 500 7.62x54r Russian cartridges at a mild savings compared to my last order. On Saturday I was at a gunshow but saw no signs of panic. I would not be surprised if many people who panicked last time is still paying off the credit card debit from it or still has 12,000 rounds of 9mm.
 
I keep reading this nonsense everyhwere, but every place I go has ammo and firearms out the wahzoo. Walmart at any given time may be low, or they may be loaded to the gills, just depends on the deliveries they have with the manufacturers. Just because one particular store does not have the ammo you want in stock on a particular day does not mean there is a shortage.

Just go across the street to Academy or Gander or your local gun store and they will have everything you need. Or heck, get online, there are some great ammo sales at Natchez and Midway.
 
Around here in NW Arkansas the supply is good, during the election the pawn shops were buying up ammo from the WM shelves creating a shortage.
