Ammo Shortage

Funny, both gunshops around here recieved a huge shipment. Bulk packs for $20. They are still in stock...

They are coming back, just not to stores like Wal-mart.

Our super Walmart has been getting bulk packs of .22 LR every week. Trouble is, you have to get in the store before 07:00 to buy.

You would think since this happens every couple of years now the ammo companies could tool up from all the money they are making so they can keep the supply coming.

and this is the best reason I can think of for "buy it cheap, stack it deep" I do that. And I shoot regularly and lots - haven't made a dent in my supply yet. Don't think I ever could, as I replenish whenever I find a deal (and it could be years between buys...)

'Unicorns deliver them every Tuesday and Thursday...but you have to be here early because they can only carry so much..."

I don't have the time to wake up early and stalk a store. I'd like to be able to just go online or go to my local store and pick some up, but neither never have any. So to me...yah, it's fantasy land alright. I haven't bought any .22LR this year, and I refuse to get the super dirty crappy stuff.

This thing you are using...the internet/world wide web...it has .22lr available though it.

Just sayin'

Not CCI Minimag or anything good. But since I wrote that last comment, I got tired of waiting and just pulled the plug on 1000 rounds on Gunbroker. I can't wait for 8 cent rounds forever. I got 'em at 14 cents.

Every time the POTUS opens his mouth about gun control, bullets fly off the shelves around here. Our Walmart seems to be getting frequent shipments of .22 LR, but they are always out and I have been told that the same folks are basically camping out in the store waiting on them to be put out. All I have found are at the LGS are going for 12 - 15 cents per bullet. I really don't see this ending until after the 2014 mid-terms and then being dependent on who wins. If the dims take back the House and keep the Senate, they will push gun control with the same mantra as they did obamacare - "Yes We can." I hate to even speculate on how this could go.

You would think that the shooters would stock up on ammo when it's plentiful and inexpensive.

Notice the dates on this Wal Mart 550 bulk pack.

I just packed up my ammo for a prairie dog hunt. 1k rounds of .223, 500 rounds of .204, both that I loaded myself. And 1,500 rounds of .22LR that I've had for over a year.

I got a box of 550 Winchester Target this past week at the LGS for $40 for a friend of mine that's going also.

Still probably have over 1k of .22's in the drawer yet. I'm one of them "hoarder" types. Thing is, I buy when it's plentiful and on sale.

More and more I'm seeing .380, 9mm., .40S&W, and .45ACP on dealers shelves in sizable quantities. But .22LR is nowhere to be found or else it was there (as in when the store opened), but disappeared in a matter of minutes of making it to the floor. Somewhat disconcerting but I believe that eventually supply will catch up with demand and I can stock up on rimfire ammo once again.

Sorta hard for the new shooter just coming into the sport to do.

That is a nice start in a stockpile tho.

I traded a 400rd box to "get back" something I gave to that person "for free" and then gave another 400rd box to the same person as a birthday gift. I still have a ton of .22LR ammo left. Thing is... the recipient will probably never know how much that ammo was worth at the time. :D

Not everybody has been in the game as long as you.

Heck, you've been in the game longer than many shooter's current age.

This is true.

Since this current shortage started I've given new shooting friends and some old friends to, over 10,000 rounds of 22LR and rifle, shotgun and handgun ammo.

When ammo becomes available again we are going to have a talk about them stocking up their own couple year supply of ammo.

Maybe true but most everyone can buy a extra box or two of ammo now and then.

Really, it's better than money in the bank. I'm making almost no interest on what money I have in the bank but if I wanted to I could make a lot of money on ammo. If I was a low life or hard up I could have made a good bit of money on that 10,000 rounds I gave away. I'm glad I'm neither hard up or a low life though. :)

Like Midwest, mine is all stacked up in a closet. I won't say how much or what I paid. Suffice it to say it was before '08. Remington and CCI bricks.
I will be plinking for a long time.... :)

You come off as insulting large groups of other people with your posts.

You are first insulting people for not having a stockpile of ammo, and now you are insulting people who utilize capitalism and the free market/entrepreneurial spirit by using their capital to buy/sell a commodity...legally on the open market...to make money.

As you probably know I haven't been hard pressed for ammo the past year, I have enough to keep shooting through this shortage and be just fine. I also haven't been in the business of "flipping" ammo for a profit.

In other words, I'm not pointing this out because it applies to me, as neither of those things applies to me.

But I don't think insulting the people it does apply to, categorically, is proper.

I havent seen .22 bulk ammo for a while. But i havent shot much since February when i bought my a new Ruger 22.45 .

Ain't that the truth about bank interest, I remember the day I got 16-17 % interest on CD's.

Right! Lets hope they listen.
