Does anyone have the approximate number of 40 S&W rounds that fit in a 50 and 30 cal ammo cans? Likewise, the approximately weight? Thank you very much for the help.

please have a great Thanksgiving!

Number of rounds? No idea.
Weight? Using my semi-sorta reliable bathroom scale:

.30 cal can filled with .40 S&W weighed just about 40 lbs.

.50 cal can filled with .223/5.56 weighed just under 40 lbs.

.50 cal can filled with 9mm weighed just about 65 lbs.

I’ll guess the .40 in a .50 can will weigh closer to 70-75 lbs because of the greater bullet weights.

Stay safe.

You can get ~2800-3000 rds of 40S&W in boxes (depending on the brand) in a 20mm can. A bit over 100 lbs of ammo not including package and the can itself.

Poured full of loose ammo it would be too heavy for me to move.

@Riomouse911

your 40’s are 165’s?

thanks!
Probably all 180’s... I had about a 50-50 mix of Winchester and aluminum cased Blazers in there, all FMJ. Also, if you’re doing math to figure the numbers I must admit the scale isn’t the most accurate, it’s a bit more of a “ball park” scale so it may be off a few lbs.

Stay safe.

Close enough for government work! Between the scale, can, ammo, and etc. I just needed a rough idea. 40 ish is much easier than 70 ish to carry. Also, the round count is easier to do the math. I am much better at my “1000” tables, than “1750” tables....

:)

Yeah, that 9mm can is a real bruiser to hoist up from the floor. As was posted above, anything larger than standard .50 can cans gets really hard to lift if they’re getting close to full.

My .45 ACP can is full of 230 gr hardball. I should’ve weight it when I brought the scale down as it also is pretty hefty. I’ll guess it’s close to the 45 pound weight class as well.

Stay safe.

Ive got a couple big ammo cans that I can barely move when full. They are about 20"×20"×10". And I move 5 gallon buckets of paint every day...

In factory 4x5 - 20 round packaging, I can fit 420 rounds of russian 7.62x39 in a 30cal can. Weighs 10-12 pounds.
