An “aha” moment, or no?

much a fan of evolution of discussion as I am, the divergences here were just weird
While I won’t argue that, because it is, after studying Dali in college I know this is less weird.
Maybe not the beginning premise, but the rest of it, pretty predictable as far as threads go.;)

The principles apply whether you use rimfire or .300WM.
Had the OP specified his caliber specific examples could have been generated. When, however, they are just shooting ‘something’ then you have to just pick an example.

Can this subject get confusing ... I have never been good at math and I was doing Okay with comprehending untill I got to post #4 .... when I ran into post #6 and post #7 ... I was lost .
All those mathamatical formulas and calculations just leave me in a state of confusion .
Good luck getting your rifle sighted in ... I can do it with my 1960's ways and means but I can't exsplain it .

Its having your line of sight high relative to your bore.
You need to hit low at 25 (if trying for less than silly high at 100).

Guys going from iron sighted .22 lr rifles to centerfires w scopes and high rings........have this surprise.

Ok, with .300 Winchester Magnum if you want to be zero at 100 yards (why?) you will be about 1.5" high at 25 yards.
If you want to be zero at 300 yards you are going to be much higher at 25.

Hitting the Moon also requires tracking the time to reach the target and having to aim so as to intersect the moon when it's actually "there." Orbital dynamics get really weird really quickly as you care trying to create 4th order arcs to intersect across precession time scales. SO, you are likely going to have to point "thataway" rather than "at" the target.
