I got back to the states in early Jan 09 and bought my first gun, a Sig 1911, in late Jan/early Feb timeframe. This was before I was a THR member and knew nothing of the Obama caused run on the gun store. I got my first rifle, a Springfield M1A, around early April. I found THR while doing a Google search for how to zero a M1A and looking for a zero target I could print off.
To get to the point, obviously I hadn't been around to buy guns or ammo prior to the run on the gun store, so I don't really know what a normal price is for 9mm, 45 ACP, 7.62x51, or 22LR. When I first got the rifle I was paying 70 cents per round in bulk, now they're selling it for 60 cents per in boxes of 20 rounds. I got a 5,000 round box of 22LR at 5 cents per; I've been paying $19 or $20 per 50 round box of 45 ACP and $13 per 50 round box of 9mm (except for the time I found a box of 500 rounds of Brown Bear 9mm for $100, still kicking myself I only bought one box of that).
This is in the Tacoma WA area. Luckily there's a store on my way to the range that sells cheap targets and hasn't been sold out of ammo yet. The one place I have noticed that's always sold out is Walmart. I've never seen 9mm or 45 ACP there so I don't know what price they charge.
Out of curiosity though, how much did 9mm, 45 ACP, 22LR, 5.56x45, and 7.62x51 cost around the summer of 2008 and when do you think prices will be back to that? I ask because I honestly have no idea what prices were like prior to Jan 09.
