Since all the major manufacturers dont wanna make the calibers we shoot the most; my local bail bonding and C&R dealer has heard our plea. Viking Bail Bonds has started cranking out .380 and .45 Long Colt in addition to 9mm and 45 ACP. They seized the initiative bought an automatic Dillons Press and with all new components they are turning out a really nice product. I think I just found a new favorite shop to spend my hard earned money at! Anyone local to Topeka, gets to shoot again!

Bail Bonds and Ammo, hmm like Liquor Store and Pawn Shop. After visiting the liquor store you have to pawn your belongings. As much as I'm all for private innovation to answer the ammo demand, this one just seems odd is all.

Hopefully they got their hands on tons of components and have a steady customer base. I'd like to see more private groups taking on ammo production. I'd certainly love to get my own automatic press one day, after I get my FFL, am hosting my own NRA courses out of my FFL premises, have a firinng range, and turn out ammo for my customers.

He also sells military surplus and items forfeited for non payment colateral so he is like a pawn shop.

I'm over in Missouri, do you know if he does any shipping?? I'd like some .380 just to have it around, I've been out for MONTHS! Do you have contact info?

I got back to the states in early Jan 09 and bought my first gun, a Sig 1911, in late Jan/early Feb timeframe. This was before I was a THR member and knew nothing of the Obama caused run on the gun store. I got my first rifle, a Springfield M1A, around early April. I found THR while doing a Google search for how to zero a M1A and looking for a zero target I could print off.

To get to the point, obviously I hadn't been around to buy guns or ammo prior to the run on the gun store, so I don't really know what a normal price is for 9mm, 45 ACP, 7.62x51, or 22LR. When I first got the rifle I was paying 70 cents per round in bulk, now they're selling it for 60 cents per in boxes of 20 rounds. I got a 5,000 round box of 22LR at 5 cents per; I've been paying $19 or $20 per 50 round box of 45 ACP and $13 per 50 round box of 9mm (except for the time I found a box of 500 rounds of Brown Bear 9mm for $100, still kicking myself I only bought one box of that).

This is in the Tacoma WA area. Luckily there's a store on my way to the range that sells cheap targets and hasn't been sold out of ammo yet. The one place I have noticed that's always sold out is Walmart. I've never seen 9mm or 45 ACP there so I don't know what price they charge.

Out of curiosity though, how much did 9mm, 45 ACP, 22LR, 5.56x45, and 7.62x51 cost around the summer of 2008 and when do you think prices will be back to that? I ask because I honestly have no idea what prices were like prior to Jan 09.

Yup they just got their liscence last week!

.380 is $30/box which beats the last gunshow where they sold American Eagle for $50. Shot a box last night and was impressed. Grouped the same for me as always 4.5" at 50' from a 232 sig.

f.show they are boxes of 50

I dont mind paying for a steady service rather than a hit or miss like walmart

I have been able to pick up primers from Viking in the recent past. 2K large pistol and 1K large magnum rifle at $38.95 per thousand. The last time I stopped in they had a rack of 20 or so Mosin Nagants your choice $110 with a bandolier, sling, cleaning kit, pig sticker. I picked one up along with 550 rounds of mil surp ammo out the door for $170 including tax. Pretty good guys to deal with.

If you manufacture ammunition to sell you need a manufacturer's FFL. It's $30 for three years and you are required to comply with ITAR at another $2,250 per year for registration fee. Product liability insurance starts at $2,100 per year, so figure about $4,500 to get licensing and insurance per year.

It says Federal .380 Auto and they have some in brass and some in aluminum I think as it is grey in color. I just bought brass though.

That would be Little Joe's Liquor and Pawn over on 24 Highway in Kansas City, KS.

No joke, you can't make this stuff up.

Where I used to live, there was a drug store chain that sold guns, ammunition, reloading supplies, liquor, and of course, drugs. You could go buy a 44 with ammo, grab a bottle of Jack Daniel's and go get your mood meds, all in one trip!

Sounds like the gas station, tanning salon, diner, daycare center I stopped at in Kentucky awhile back. Never laughed so hard in my life! I think it was in a place called Roundhill.

When I was a LOT younger, we had a place to buy .22 ammo, but the primary purpose of the business was a grocery store. Not unusual, you say? Well, the back part of the store contained the funeral home and an enbalming room.

You wouldn't think of the two types of business having a lot in common, but I can tell you that the old man that ran the grocery business also did the embalming. When he hand-sliced the large bologna sticks in the store part, there was no one his equal in terms of speed and uniformity!
