And they make fun of people for carrying 2 guns

Glad to hear of a citizen here in CT successfully defending himself from two armed bad guys. I bet the BGs never expected that. Can't wait to see how the local news will report it tomorrow. Lots of anti gun sentiment here and this incident will be an positive example of what armed citizen can do. I might carry two guns if I worked in a store in east Hartford or any other city here. Shootings, car jackings, robberies and murders are on local news every morning.

Carrying a 2nd gun is not about perceived threat, area, or the "I don't live in a war zone" :barf: shortsighted cliché.

Why a 2nd gun...
If your only gun is on belt, you can't put hand on it without revealing you are carrying; the option to do that is afforded by 2nd gun in pocket.
If only gun is in pocket then weak hand access is laughably slow and access when seated not on par with gun on belt.
2nd gun in weak hand pocket plus primary on belt affords those options and options are desirable everywhere, anywhere.

I tried carrying two guns on the job when I was a young cop and could never manage to make it work for me (my second piece a Chief's Special in an ankle holster). I came to realize that it slowed me down when movement might just be important so I quit doing that. That second gun was my off-duty weapon and for years I always had it with me if I was able to carry a sidearm... The last half of a 22 year career I made a serious up-grade of that "off-duty" item - and instead of something small - I made a point of always carrying my full sized service weapon (mostly 9mm or 40cal auto pistols) with me when off-duty. It took some getting used to but my reasoning was simple. If I ever really needed a sidearm off-duty - I wanted to be as prepared as possible.... By the way it is very possible to carry a medium frame auto pistol in an ankle holster when wearing long pants...

My friend is a Michigan State Trooper and they are required to carry a backup gun (I believe J Frame SW?) in their front pocket.

Good he did because he ended up fighting with a guy and used his backup gone to shoot the guy since he couldn't reach his primary.

I pocket carry to supplement the one holstered on my belt frequently. Jacket pocket in colder weather, weak side front pants/shorts pocket otherwise. Can't imagine trying to ankle carry under any circumstances. I had trouble imagining the why/how clerk engaging with 2 guns. Maybe his supplemental gun was more easily accessible and he retrieved his primary while still shooting the back-up?

Why are we assuming the clerk was carrying two guns? From the articles, I wouldn't automatically assume that he was carrying any gun at all, only that he had access to them in the store.

The two common reasons to access a second gun are because the first one is empty or it malfunctioned or was damaged and can't be brought back into operation.

I doubt we'll ever know exactly how he had access set up. He could have been carrying two, he could have been carrying one with another one stashed in an accessible location, or he might have had guns stashed around the shop like Lance Thomas did in his gunfights. I think the point is that having more than one gun very likely helped him prevail.

Well, normally people who carry 2 guns are ridiculed.

Folks ridicule others for almost anything, especially if it's gun related. Hard to be a member on any gun forum like this one for more than a day and not see fellow members dissing another, because of their choice of gun make, caliber or capacity. I'm surer as more facts come out, folks will feel the need to make fun of how they were carried, or even, "well, it was a (insert gun make here), you need two at all times to make sure at least one will work!"(insert a laughing smiley face here). Antis will make comments about the two guns being "overkill" and just proof there are too many guns out there.

Give it time.
