It still makes me want to bang my head against the wall whenever they cite that "the majority" of Americans want stronger gun control laws. News flash, it doesn't matter. We have a constitution and bill of rights for a reason. A true democracy is selfish, and would "want" itself into chaos with entitlements.
How come no one points this out to them? They are elected to govern, to uphold the constitution for all of us. Not most of us. Its not a popularity contest.

The purpose of a government is to protect the rights of the few from the tyranny of the many. That happened today, but barely. Anti's will see this narrow loss as an encouragement to continue pressing. Only when they are soundly beaten by 2/3 will they ever consider backing off... I wont see that in my life time, and I'm relatively young.

Lie: 40% of gun sales are at gun shows without a background check.
(And according to the Adam "American AlQaeda" Gadahn video they are fully automatic weapons sold without ID, and some California-born Jihadist poseur in Pakistan is an unimpeachable source to the American leftwingnuts.)
Lie: 90% of Mexican crime guns come from US gun shops.
I could go into detail on these statistical lies used by the Obama Administration.
Short form:
The survey that gave 40% (NSPOF) gave "from where" answers of 4% (four percent) gun acquisitions at gun shows plus flea markets total. The 4% from gun shows and flea markets includes from dealers and from private parties.
The NSPOF "from where" and "from whom" give 60% gun acquisitions from gun dealers, 40% from non-dealers: 13% used guns from private parties, 3% private swaps and trades of used guns, 19% gifts among family and friends, 5% inhertitances. So Obama Admin and their mass media echo chamber report 40% non-dealer as 40% gun show sales without background check and formulate federal bills on a false representation of the stats.
Bureau of Justice Statistics survey of state convicts gave crime gun sources as 1.7% gunshows and flea markets. Jeez people, every gun show I have attended had cops at the door checking and cable-tying guns and rumors of undercover ATF prowling the aisles. Gun shows and flea markets: 4% of traffick among general public, 1.7% of crime guns.
90% of Mexican crime guns that appear in ATF records of guns made in USA or legally imported into USA actually came from US gun shops. As Department of Homeland Security, DOJ OIG and private StratFor pointed out:
o Mexico seized 30,000 firearms in drug-related cases 2004-2008.
o ATF advised Mexico to submit only guns that appeared to be US origin.
o Mexico submitted 7,200 that appeared to be US origin.
o ATF found 4,000 in their records and 87% 3,480 had been sold in the US.
That 87% of traceables is 12% of the guns siezed in drug crimes.
There is a new president in Mexico, but you do not see him like El Presidente Filipe Calderon in Rose Garden events with Obama or a joint session of Congress calling for more US gun control to fight gun violence in Mexico. The new president has vowed to solve the violence by demilitarizing the Mexican Drug War, militarized by Calderon in Dec 2006 in an initial operation that saw 50 police, 100 soldiers and 500 cartel members dead, and cartels increasingly fighting police, military and each other until the death toll reached 24,000 a year at one point.

Despite what the liberal press wants people to believe, 90% of Americans WERE NOT in favor of additional gun control measures.
As a tax paying American, who along with millions of other Americans rose against this tide of emotion to protect our 2nd amendment rights I am insulted that we are disregarded as Americans and all of the credit for the defeating of this bill is being given (blamed on) the Senate. They did listen to their constituents and those who voted for this bill will lose their jobs at the next election. Just like they did in 1994.
The American people wrote, emailed, called and went to visit our Senators and let them know that we also want to stop the violence, but that gun laws would not do it.
This is a pivotal moment in fight against violence in our great country.
Now is the time to bolster and enforce the many existing gun laws, which can be accomplished through executive orders and it is time to reform the mental health system in such a way that these sick individuals do not so easily slip through the cracks.
This is not now, and never was about guns. It is about violence and mental health.

2. The Brady Campaign doesn't want to damage your gun rights, they just want to make you safer by taking them away.
3. Limiting the use of high capacity magazines and weapons with scary looking features will not have any effect on the people's ability to form militias but will stop crime by limiting the damage done in shootings. So let me get this straight, it won't hinder your ability to defend yourself, but will hinder a bad guy's ability to do harm to people? Those two things are mutually exclusive and can't both be correct.
4. We're going it for the kids, honest. We're not exploiting a tragedy to try and trump up support for gun control measures that haven't had any support since the AWB expired.
5. Low cap mags prevent mass shootings. Except for those standard ten round mags that were used in both Columbine and Virginia Tech.
6. It takes minutes to change a magazine, but only if you're handicapped or Joe Biden.

Obama is all about emotion, so what is new here. I would have been shocked if he and other supporters of the anti gun legislation had not had a press conference and wrung their hands about how horrible the failure is. And naturally they will tote out the same baloney about crime and school kids etc, etc.

There are three reasons for ignoring Chicago and other Citys problems. It has do do with the color of ones skin, their economic status and the failure of LE/Justice System when dealing with violent people.

He got testy when he talked about how someone called the Sandy Hook families props. He stated that they deserved to be heard. In all of his campaigning, I missed seeing the victims and families of the thousands of people who are alive today because they were able to defend themselves. Don't they deserve to be heard as well?

Yep, this same administration refuses to arrest convicted felons who attempt to buy guns. This same administration refuses to prosecute convicted felons for possession of firearms.

I have NEVER been more embarrassed by a sitting President in all my life. Even Carter was better, and that isn't saying much.
