Okay gang, even though I'm not a kid I do like anime. No, not the Pokemon stuff. If you don't know what anime is, it is animation from Japan. And like Hollywood films, it has just as many genres and age ratings. However, I think a good deal of the stories anime tell are far better than what Hollywood is turning out.

So, explanation out of the way, down to the purpose of the post.

What are your favorite real firearms that have been used in anime series? Now, they have to be real, no Hellsing .454 Casull.

While cool, not real.

So here are some of my favs with imfdb (interntet movie firearms database) links:

From Cowboy Bebop, Spike's Jericho 941

From Black Lagoon, Revy's Modified Dual 92F Berettas

From Noir, Mireille's Walther P99 and Kirika's Beretta M1934

From Gunslinger Girl, Henrietta's FN P90, Triela's H&K G3 and Winchester Model 1897 with optional bayonet, Rico's SVD Dragunov and CZ-75, Angelica's Steyr AUG, and Claes' HK MP5.

Definitely a Cowboy Bebop fan here, but Gunslinger Girl creeps me out. It's not as bad as Strike Witches, which makes me gag, but it seems just a tad too "gun&loli" fetishistic. Plus, the scale/dimensions are frequently exaggerated/distorted, which is unappealing.

I do particularly like the Ghost in the Shell anime movies and TV series, especially Togusa's use of a Mateba revolver.

Every single one of those characters have their finger on the trigger...

I was going to post the same thing. I would say it's probably because the Japanese, despite being totally obsessed with firearms, have no idea how to actually handle them. I don't think anyone is allowed to own guns in Japan other than police and military, so there is absolutely no familiarity with them among the general public. They are strictly an object of fantasy and pop entertainment.

That's how it's going to be in the US, too, if things keep going the way they are.

Full Metal Panic has some guns that don't show up often in anime; unfortunately the show isn't as action oriented, so no really good gun porn.

I think the main char use a Glock. In FMP the 2nd raid the BG used a CZ 75 I believe.

What would be the point of having the gun if they didn't ;)

Besides, in most of those screenshots, they are actually pointing or about to point the gun at someone. The exception being Gunslinger Girl, which is odd since the creators did pretty well with the firearm specifics in the show.

Actually, this probably isn't so much about the Japanese not having firearms. It more likely falls into the same category as Hollywood getting things wrong when they show guns in use (i.e. more for effect than reality...)

The 1968 Mustang Shelby Cobra is cool too!

+1

Quick IMFDB gun links for Full Metal Panic and Gunsmith Cats.

Even though FMP isn't as action oriented, there are a LOT of guns in the series.

I can't believe people are talking about cartoons in a gun related forum.

Oh come on... :rolleyes::rolleyes:

There have been no fewer than 2 threads recently about the mall cop movie coming up, and an uncountable many about tv show/movie/video game guns or gun-related mistakes over the years.

Let's try to stay focused on the original poster's idea, real guns in aname. I doubt this thread will have much in the way of legs since most firearms I've seen in the few aname films I have seen were highly/unrealistically modified or outright silly fantasy pieces, but it might be interesting to find out if there are any others than the few already mentioned.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. If one of them manages to shoot himself you can fix it with an eraser.

Vash the Stamped From TRIGUN also uses a Mateba revolver. Also my wife just told me that there are matchlock muskets in InuYasha.
