so, im at "sportsmans warehouse" checking out the guns (to get a feel for them all before i order the one i want from the local guy) and the salesman knows absolutely nothing about handguns... and im fine with that because i want to look at certain ones. then he goes on break and i get the "retired cop" who tells me the following.

#1 carrying condition 1 is stupid, unsafe and is never useful
#2 glock is the #1 handgun in the world and is trusted by more police / militaries than any other handgun in the world
#3 after i told him i dont like the feel i was told "i will get used to it... and get over it"
#4 nothing is more accurate than a glock
#5 he PERSONALLY owns 25 glocks...
#6 when i told him "i do not want or like glocks" he told me that "he was like that at first but you get over it" and put another damned glock in my hand
#7 I ALMOST FORGOT!!!! he also told me that "he would never trust a 1911 for carry... that the only gun he would ever trust for carry is a glock"

and then he stopped showing me the guns i wanted to see and kept showing me this damned glock that i was NOT interested in. If i wanted a gun to carry in that stage i would get the xd (better gun imo). i packed up and left shortly after i heard the line about how the usp is "a decent gun but no-where near a glock"

meh... what should have been a wonderful outing to the gun store to pick out my next pistol turned into a horribly annoying experience.

He obviously doesn't get out much. I can think of at least 3 major manufacturers who will beat out glock in that department.

I would have been pretty ticked off if it got that far..I'd probably ask to talk to a department head or a manager and let them know that their employee works for Glock.

yeah i was NOT pleased... i plan on finding out when he works and going back to look when he's NOT there. it was EXTREMELY maddening

I have a relative that's like that. Huge Glock fanboy. Claims that his Glock is the most accurate weapon ever. Shame that every time we go to the range together he's having an "off day" or isn't "feeling well".

Not that I'm personally knocking Glocks. I don't personally like them, but I think they are fine weapons for those who they fit well, but they aren't the be-all end-all and they don't turn a mediocre shot into an expert simply by their sheer presence. It's the indian afterall and not the arrow.

I love glocks, trust them with my life. But i'm not forcing one down anybody's throat. The guy is a simply a moron. sorry he had to go and ruin shopping for ya. Sounds like an old co-worker of mine, he never took no for an answer. Hope your next time to the gun store is more enjoyable.

It can be frustrating. I know that it's always easier to think of what to say after the fact, but for anyone in that situation, remember this: YOU ARE THE CONSUMER!!! The person at the counter makes their money from you when it is all said and done. That's not to say you should be a jerk back at them, but a properly toned comment goes a long way.

Proper response to this kind of sales person: "Excuse me, sir. I'm sure Glocks are fine weapons, but I'm really not interested in buying one. Ever. May I see the guns I'm actually interested in, or should I request someone else to help me?"

Depending on the person, they'll either realize they're entirely in the wrong, help you while swearing through their teeth, or refuse to help you at all. Regardless, you'll have a better starting point to go to a manager with.

My glock is many things, reliable, tough, proven, functional.

It is also not many things, good looking, most accurate, and not the only gun in the pile.

Just like 1911 die hards and S&W wheel gun affectionados, Glock fan boys can be just as annoying. Did you ask him why there were other guns in the case besides Glocks if Glock was "the only gun needed"?

That would be called "affirmation bias". When I go to the gun store, I already know what I want to buy. I don't need, nor do I want, anyone telling me what to buy.

I have never understood how anyone can really call themselves a gun "salesman". I don't think anyone could talk me into buying a gun I did not really want. Maybe its just me, but when I go to a gunshop looking for a 1911, I don't get talked into buying an AR-15. It just wont happen.

I have had people try to talk me out of buying pistols before...and magicly they always try to sell me something more expensive. I hate when gunstore clerks try this crap and I will walk out quicker then you can blink If I feel like you are trying to rip me off or annoy me.

I've been a "salesman" for almost 30 years now. Started out at Hodgdon Powder company and then went on to high tech networking hardware and software sales.

One of the first things I learned is that people don't like being SOLD things, they like BUYING things!:D The only thing I do is help them justify the purchase in their own minds or show them the potential benefits of my product or services vs. my competitors.

With a few exceptions, and not wishing to offend, most of the people behind the counter at gun stores are not professional salespeople. They are clerks!

you think that's bad? try buying a S&W sigma with a glockboy salesman! i never heard the end of it. eventually, one of the older guys came over and shut him up.

then he tried to get me to buy a colt commander.....

It's always amazing that is a few industries or market sectors people try and sell you what they like, not what you ask for.

Just once I'd love to be working at a Mac Donalds or a Starbucks and have one of the counter monkeys come in.

CM: I'd like a Big Mac, a Large Coke, and a Large fry.

Me: Nah, that stuff'll kill ya, here, take this salad and some low fat yogurt parfe.

CM: Uh, I really just want the Big Mac, that's what I like.

Me: You are mistaken, you just THINK you want a Big Mac. You know how many people around the world love salads and eat them daily?

Now how long would I keep my job?

That salesman is a complete idiot. He never even mentioned that nothing is more durable.

Sorry to hear that, personally Glocks are fine for me but heh, it is Amerika right?

#3 after i told him i dont like the feel i was told "i will get used to it... and get over it"
If you encounter that behavior in the future you might want ask them if the same applies to fat, ugly women. "Personally I just choose athletic, beautiful women but hey, to each his own!"

I think Glocks are great. I don't own one yet but someday I might. A good friend of mine is the chief of police in a department of 50+ officers. They are given a choice of .40 or .45 caliber Glocks, whichever they prefer. He says a lot of his officers are asking for Kimbers. Glocks are top of the line firearms but they are not perfect and they are not for everybody.

My Glock 21 will outlast my Witness pistols, my Colt pistols, my Taurus pistols and most of my rifles and shotguns..... because it is such a clumsy block of plastic it never leaves the safe except for the annual glock match at my club.

I have a standard answer for "salespeople" like that.

"I'm sorry. You're obviously under the impression that I asked for your opinion. I didn't. I asked to see what I want to see. Now are you going to show me what I asked for, or do we need to call your supervisor/ go someplace else?"
