Saw this at my local Meijer store today. To me it means if I carry and want to shop at Meijer I have to carry a revolver since they disallow pistols.
NOTE: This is not the door at my Meijer (notice mask sign in Spanish), but an image found online, but I saw the exact same no pistol sign on the door at the Northville MI Meijer.

As far as I know, in MI, that sign does not carry any legal weight. If they catch you carrying, and they ask you to leave, you better leave or you can be charged with trespassing. But it's not a gun crime.

PS I walk right past those signs nearly every day armed, so I'm not just talking out my butt suggesting you break the law while I don't have a dog in the fight.

Dang. I’m in Michigan north of Detroit and shop at Meijer nearly daily and have not seen that sign. I can’t imagine that they’ve allowed a local management decision on that so would guess I’ll see that here soon

I’ve seen people open carrying there but never seen anyone carrying concealed. From here forward I’m guessing I’ll see less of both

Well if you are up into the thumb I suspect you may not see that sign on your Meijer. I never noticed it before and usually don't shop at the Northville store so next time I go to the local Meijer by me I will have to check for that sign.

Note: I saw something like 12 different gun magazines on the magazine rack at the Livonia Meijer. That is a good sign.

In some places that sign carries weight. In some it doesn’t.
In Oregon signs like that can be ignored unless the sign also lists the civil code that states that if a no weapons sign is posted and it references the civil code banning weapons carry then it is enforceable.

Personally, I like those signs. They tell me who doesn’t need my money.

It's too bad that the huge companies like Meijer, Kroger, D&W, Wal-Mart have put all of the small town grocers out of business.
I have to wonder what Fred and Lena Meijer would think about those signs on their doors?
Somehow I can picture Fred with a Colt shop keeper under his apron.
They were good people. Now the corporate boardroom runs the show.

It’s like a shoes and shirts required sign, not a law just a request. But like Pat said if they ask to you to leave they have the authority to do so. Have to be careful though, state laws vary. Some places are prohibited like bars and certain restaurants for alcohol sales by local law. One of the reasons the Post Office creates a problem for me. Cannot go in with the gun but if I leave it in the car that is verboten as well. Bottom line is it’s a way of telling me they don’t want my business.

In Kentucky the sign doesn’t carry the weight of law. You can’t carry in schools, daycares, bars that serve by the drink, general assembly of council meetings and probably a few other places I can’t recall.

But you can carry past a sign on a business like Walmart.

Some of the places you can carry that may be restricted elsewhere include, at drs office or the hospital, churches, crowds, parades, funerals.

In Michigan these signs on private business are a request. If you were discovered to be carrying you would be asked to leave. If you don’t then you could end up with some trespass charges.

Much different than the penalties associated with our prohibited premises, which do not include the parking lots of those places, except schools, unless parent/legal guardian in the act of dropping off or picking up. Then in the car is ok.

Post Office gets into the Federal Law including the parking lot and thankfully for multiple reasons that place just isn’t needed much anymore.

Can you cite the federal post office carry rules please?

Regarding post office carry, my post lady give me permission to carry. I told her that I appreciated it, but would still get in trouble if I happened to be caught by a postal inspector.

In the KY ccdw class you are told you cannot carry in the post office building but legal to leave it in the car in the post office parking lot.

Also of note, postal mail carriers can carry during delivery of the mail, but not in the building, according to the same ccdw instruction.

Carries the weight of law in NC

That is good to know! I carry in NC frequently and did not know that. I carry under HR218 in quite a few states and you are supposed to know and respect the local laws. I try to stay up with such things but it is impossible. My best buddy teaches the Concealed Carry Course in Richmond County. I will have to check with him.
