At Democratic Underground a nice young 'Liberal' feels somewhat conflicted about driving right past stranded evacuees (mother and infant) because, well, the broken-down van they stood next to had a 'W' sticker on back.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x4582698

I had no idea how deeply my hate for that man ran. My lack of an interaction, with a * supporter is still haunting me a couple of hours later.

I was on my home and was on the ramp getting off the highway. I saw a mini-van on the side of the road. There was a lady standing next to the van and in her arms she held her child. I can only assume her mini-van had broken down. I don't know, perhaps with so many gad stations being out of gas, she had also run out. I slowed down and started to pull over to offer her a ride. At the very last second I noticed a "W" sticker on the back of her vehicle and I sped up and drove off.

I feel really bad as a human being. That child is not responsible for their parent's belief system. They are innocent and do not deserve to be out in the heat. (It is warm but not so bad that they would even break a sweat) I try not to punish people for what they believe.

On the other hand, so many hateful thoughts went through my head. I wondered how a person could see what was going on in NO and still have one of those awful stickers on their car. How could they support an awful excuse for a human being that has let our country down and is letting Americans die after they have made it through the storm? How can someone be so blind and so stupid?

I thought that if she loves * so much, maybe he would come along and help her the same way he is rescuing all of those poor people in the weather stricken part of our country. Let's see what her hero can do for her.

I never did go back. I was so upset with that sticker and with the fact that someone would support an idiot who is so clearly running our country into the ground.

So why am I writing this? It is not to boast, I really feel bad about passing this child and not picking up their mother. Perhaps it is for a catharsis of sorts? That would be an educated guess. I suppose it is because I feel conflicted and I am writing this to try and sort through what I am feeling. There are two emotional sides, for me, on this incident and neither seems completely right or wrong to me. Even writing this, I am still not able to work through what happened. I feel like I am floating between right and wrong and am unable to grab either side.

Thanks for listening.

Even if the original poster was making up a story, the responses to her story made me feel very :barf:

I've seen dogs that understood common decency better, but then again its the DU we are talking about.

If it is a true story, it was pretty petty not to help based on the presence of a political bumper sticker. I think it is more likely an after-the-fact case of the person trying to rationalize to themselves why they did not stop.

Didnt it occur to that poster that the car had been stolen from its rightful owner? If that were the case, then the driver would not only be a liberal, but the best kind of liberal.

I wonder how she feels that the Democrat mayor of NO bussed rich foriegn tourists to the Superdome and put them in the head of the line in font of dying locals. As her actions go she'll be judged for them someday.

Feh. I don't believe I followed that link. She at least has the decency to feel guilty. Most of the responders were telling her she was right to abandon them.

Damned DU'ers. They and the FREEP'ers deserve each other. We could solve a lot of problems by locking them all a big room together and locking the door.

Ray Nagin was a card carying REPUBLICAN untill literally *days* before he ran for mayor in 2002. He contributed to George W Bush's presidential campaign. They can write him off completely as a "D.I.N.O" and still heap all the blame on conservatives.

Sounds like a typical liberal to me.

I did something stupid/wrong/illegal etc. Now you help me rationalzie it so I can feel better about it.

Let me get this right. A person hates our President so much that she refused to help someone in dyer need. But this is the same person that says she can't stand our President of not helping? Yep, typical liberal idiocy.

I call bearthread!

We all know that Bush Backers are eeevil white MALES who are beyond Kennedy rich. They drive around in limos and talk on cell phone plotting how to hurt women, minorities and caribou in Alaska with semiautomatic machine guns, pocket rockets and .50 death rays.:D

I would bet that about 90% of the volunteer rescuers, the Red Cross and the Salvation Army volunteers are conservative, ie Bush Backers.

This DU thread is priceless.

As somebody in thread already pointed out, even the National Review Corner Spot has got hold of this thing.

I just emailed the link to that thread to the Neal Boortz show.

Spread this thing around.

Let everyone see exactly what these people are like.

The "compassionate left", in the cases where they gained control of their governments, have killed about 250 million of their own citizens. Passing by someone who needs help on the highway is nothing in comparison with what they are capabable of doing, in a compassionate and "somewhat" tolerant sort of way. The Kerry's, Kennedy's and Clintons have defended and blocked opposition to brutal communist murders in almost every country they rule. That is why I quit the Democrat party and will probably never vote for one of those totalitarian, control freak, #%&*'ers ever again. I despise them, for the children!!!

People are people, you help them when they are down doesn't matter their beliefs. But what do I know I am just some baby killing, gun nut.

Disgusting. What a morally-bereft hateful POS. Said POS passed up a person in obivous need because of a freakin' bumpersticker they were standing near. Are you pooping in my fedora? What a booger-eating moron :barf: The real shame is that when kharma catches up with them, they probably will have no idea why :fire:

A decent person extends the benefit of the doubt to anyone until they demonstrate otherwise, and extends a helping hand when they can.

I have plenty of friends (most of whom I still consider pretty inteligent) who do not share my political views or opinions on many things. It isn't better or worse than my view, it's just different. They're still good people, I proud to have them as friends, they just weren't blessed with my dazzling command of the obvious. I figure this holds true for a lot of folks I don't know either.

There are ignorant, immature liberals and there are ignorant, immature conservatives.

This is a good example of an ignorant, immature liberal. Period. :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf:

I can certainly see why many of you vehemently disagree with a lot of the
posters at the Democratic Underground board, but really, why this sick
fascination with them? It doesnt make sense. I went to that board once,
trying to find out what "the big deal" was all about, and all I saw was a bunch
of ignorant leftists propping up each others delusions and chanting along with the rest of thier crowd.

Big deal.

Let em stew in thier own juices. What do you care what they're saying?

It seems like a lot of regular posters on this board spend a probably equal amount of time lurking over at the DU, and sneering at all the "liberals".
That doesnt seem very constructive to me.

Please explain this to me, if only for my own edification.

If I saw people who needed help, I would stop and help, no matter what kind of sticker they had on their truck. The only exception would be if they gave me a bad feeling about my own personal safety. That's it. We all disagree about things, but we can all help eachother.

fu-man shoe.....

It's not a "sick fascination" with the idiots at DU.

It's a case of "knowing thy enemy" and even using the enemy's own idiotic utterances against them.

The more folks who see the sewer over at DU, the more people who hear the idiocy, and smell the stench, the less likely the idiotic leftists are to get any of their candidates elected, or any of their policies enacted.

The best disinfectant is sunlight.

Holly crap what an idiot. :fire: I was coming out of work today and saw a guy blow out a tire on his trailer. (Sounded like a gunshot.) I saw him pull into the parking lot of the store across the street. I got into my car and drove over to see if he needed help. He thanked me and said that he had already called a friend to come and help him.

Using this persons logic, I would have simply driven off because he CHOSE to go to the store across the street and not MY store. Going to the other store makes him evil and I can't help such an idiot in need. :barf:
