Helping others in of your own accord need is a virtue of moral people, something certainly not exemplified in the modern democratic party.
That said, I find helping someone of the other party a great opportunity to help them reevaluate their political belief system. How could a Right wing gun nut have compassion? How could he be willing to help a Democrat?? How could he be so.....so.....human???
And, of course, even if they aren't receptive, you do end up with a captive audience that is at your mercy
Out here in my very rural community (which is also about 80% conservative) You just help people. You just do (unless they give you a reason not to). When we get nasty blizzards, I hop in my truck (which is more capable than most due to the lift/35" meats, four chains and axle spools front and rear) and go out looking for people who have become stuck or broken down. Of course, I get cabin fever really quickly, so this is just as much to occupy my time and maintain sanity
If you have the resources to help others at no harm to yourself, then you should do so.

Well, while that initial posting could perhaps be said to be a fictional characterization of one of the over-the-top liberals portrayed in the works of authors like William W. Johnstone ... it's just so true to form for an unfortunate number of real liberal-minded folks that I get the opportunity to meet all the time, that I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it's a true account of some fluffy-headed, hanky-stomping do-gooder who thinks saving the world is only the prerogative of the dainty of heart ... while they fail to recognize that they’re neither actually helping where it matters, nor exhibiting a truly compassionate demeanor.
They’re entitled to their delusions, though ...
Just remember not to track it in your house. The lingering stink can disturb the rest of the honorable and moral of heart in the middle of the night ...
