I know hi-points are a love 'em or hate 'em kinda gun (personally, I love them and recommend them to anyone needing a cheap, reliable gun), but out of all the numerous hate threads on hi-point, I've yet to see pics of one blown up.

They're rated for P+ ammo. They're so cheap that a lot of people don't care about what kind of ammo they shoot through it. There's enough of them around now (the other hi-point thread said they're the 4th largest USA handgun manufacturer now) that if there was anything seriously wrong or unsafe with the design, we'd be seeing pics posted all over the web of kaboomed hi-points, most likely with a different story each time, just like the glock threads. But, I have still never seen a pic of one that had a catastrophic failure. I'm sure there probably has been, just like there has of all firearms that have been produced in large quantities, but I still haven't seen/heard about one yet.

So, anyone got some pics of a blown up hi-point?

I know one of the people here at THR is going to be testing a hi-point (against a CZ?) soon, but for what they cost, I'm surprised that some of the other haters (or lovers) haven't bought one just to torture test or run hot loads through just to see how much they can withstand before they turn to shrapnel.

Sorry, they're not my photos. They are from another member here.
He has never made a post here. He posted these on another site, but with none of the info your asking for. I was just posting them here so the OP could see one that went kaboom. I'll PM him and see if he'll give me/us some of the low-down.

Actually I believe a Hi Point Hater sawed that one in half, I remember hearing of some jerk that did that to a perfectly good gun. That looks waaay to clean to be caused by shooting.

Edit: Send it back to Hi Point, you'll get basically a brand new gun!

It really does look like an overly powered round got the better of the gun but Maybe that is a pistol with 10,000 rounds through it and the blow back slide just had enough of the pressure. It is in .40 and that is a pretty high pressure round.

the slides are cast, and when cast metal breaks it usually breaks cleanly, so it is most likely a failure of the gun.

EDIT: It looks like wolf ammo in the mag but I am uncertain.

I would like to know if Hi Point honored there Warranty.Did they replace the gun, or just fixed the problem. Also was it done in a timely manner.

That does not bear signs of cutting. Cutting it would burnish the cut edges, which these aren't--they look like a casting failure. Also, a saw would make a straight cut, not following any structural lines; such is not the case here.

Also interesting: The one pictured is a .40. There is, as far as I know, no such thing as .40 S&W +P, with +P ammo a point raised by the OP. If nothing else, Hi-Points are stout, certainly able to take the pressures of a standard .40, so something doesn't smell right. I'm also thinking that this was a proof-pressure (or higher) handload.

without knowing the details, I can say that I know Hi point will always honor their warranty, no matter who's fault it is why the gun broke. It is an unlimited lifetime warranty.

Looks like an over pressure blow out caused by ammo , but without details it is all speculation.

To judge by the look on that--barring an overpressure round--I think the most likely manner is that the firing pin stuck out, and lit off a round out of battery. That tends to do bad things to anything in the immediate area, especially with cast metal's granular structure.

No, it's just that the Crips don't post pictures of it on THR!

I'm not a Hi-Point fan, but I've got to admit I've heard a lot of people say nothing but good things about their reliability and warranty. If it goes bang, then they got it right.

Actually the firing pin in that picture is in the normal position. Hi-Point uses the firing pin as the ejector. As the extractor pulls the spent case out of the chamber it hits the firing pin and the torque from the extractor flips the spent case from the chamber area.

I'm sure a Hi-Point has "blown up" or whatever at some point in time. There are people who can break a steel trailer-ball, and frankly, sometimes things break.
