Another issue, (for a friend), Police taking very long time to return his Taurus .45

Where I live the "accuser" can't just drop the charges. The police take over and file the charges anyway. I think this is mostly a bad thing but it's probably to make sure charges aren't dropped because a victim or witness is intimidated.

Domestic violence is such a serious issue that even if the charges are dropped, I wouldn't be surprised if he never saw his gun again. Bummer.

If it were me I would report to the FBI or ATF or whoever the "proper" authority is that the gun was stolen. Just because a cop has it doesn't mean it's not stolen. I saw a post here last week about a female deputy in I think it was New Orleans who was illegally confiscating handguns and never turning them in. She finally got busted but they probably didn't punish her. Typical.

I know in some states if you are even accused of domestic violence, it will cause you to be turned down for a purchase of a gun. I knew a guy in Florida who had to have his record exponged and sealed before he could purchase a gun. It took a long time and if I remember correctly was fairly expensive with attorney fees.
