Chicago's gun control is a huge joke, and while there is no "humor" in people being shot, Relax...

Chicago's gun problem isn't a Joke either. It's a dirty shame that gets shamelessly ignored except by the media that insists on calling it a gun problem when it is actually a violence problem. Two related incidence from my local news. Last weekend a person in a Jeep opened fire on an intersection and randomly fired. Police recovered over 150 rounds of 5.56.. Luckily none were hit. That was in a small town 20 minutes from my house and 5minutes from my daughters house.

This week local police in the next town from me made a homicide arrest. Man charges with multiple felonies. One being a felon in possession of a firearm. All 6 major felonies were plea bargained away with the exception of the homicide. First plea bargained away was the felon with a gun!

Again sorry but I see no reason to RELAX.

i for one am proud to live in no-mans land. I can throw a couple rifles in the pickup and drive around out in the country all day. Try that in a city!!
Still gotta be careful not to hit a cow, goat, dog, or anything else living within range that might be a neighbor’s. Some guns got reeeeeeeeeeeal long range and you just never know where a casual shot might end up.

and Florida is extra flat, here out west we call east coast mountain, Hills.

I was looking for a specific gun store near me when I stumbled on a range in Sioux Falls. Out of curiosity I read a bit about the store/range and found this;
"WE WILL NO LONGER ALLOW ALUMINUM CASED AMMUNITION ON OUR RANGE AS OF 11/01/2020". New one on me. But for $20.00 per hour range fees I prolly wouldn't shoot there anyway. I've never heard of aluminum cases being unsafe so are they not wanting aluminum to "contaminate" their range brass?

There are ranges around me that don't even allow reloads. They claim insurance reasons. A complete deal breaker for me.
Other than that, it's a rather nice facility.....decent gun counter and a lounge for your wife.

I'd like to know who are the "Fashion Police," who are going to watch for aluminum cases or reloads at a "club". I sort brass at my club. Live rounds, aluminum, steel, epoxy coat (non magnetic) are all stuff that has to be sorted out; a lot by hand, before going to the scrap yard. As for insurance, the club should have all members and guests sign a waiver of injury before shooting because there are a lot more people problems than shooting reloads.

I have been shooting in a range here in south Florida and you can shoot all day for $20.00.
A range pass cost $150.00 for 10 range trips.
Never realize what a bargain I"m getting.

P.S. we can pick up our brass and someone else's.

If you have a problem with following range rules, maybe ask some one for further information!

Seems I see all the complainers about $20.00 per hour all live out in No-Mans Land. Sadly folks here in the Populated Urban/Suburbs $20.00 her hour is about the going rate for an indoor range. Then when you add up all the costs involved in operating an indoor range even at $20.00 per hour I don't see how they are making any money.

Think about it. In an urban/suburb to operate an indoor range first you need zoning! 2nd you need a facility, either owned or rented. If owned then you pay property taxes and most likely a Business License. Then come all the Insurance requirements and other operating costs such as Gas/electric/waste removal/advertising/phone/internet/payroll. Then you have all the clowns and Dirty Harry's that want to come in and shoot up the equipment and think that's a good time.

Sorry guys but those days of going to the local farmer and asking for permission to shoot in his pit are gone at least in the general area between Chicago/Milwaukee/Madison and Rockford. Try shooting in these general areas and you will get a visit from the local Po-Po.
You are correct, taxes insurance and rent drive range prices. That's not even debatable really. But choosing to live in a high cost of living area falls on the shooter. The nice club here in Memphis intentionally Jack's up membership to keep poor people out. I cant afford their membership. Shoot point blank treats me well so I'm a member for 20 a month. They have many locations in.many states

How much ammo can one shoot in an hour? How does the cost of that compare to the $20 range cost? For folks in the city to drive a hour each way to shoot free, how much does their gas and their time cost? I'm lucky, I have my own personal range down at the cabin. 25-250 yards. Gongs every 50 yards or so. All I gotta do is keep it mowed and paint the gongs periodically. Still, there are times when I rather drive 5 minutes to the local Sportsman Club and shoot a quick box of rounds instead of the 40 minutes to the cabin. Altho it's only $20 a year, I probably only use it once or twice a year for a hour or so. Sooo, $20 an hour. That's to shoot outside in the heat and the cold, with deerflies and mosquitoes. Sounds like the range is not the store's primary source of revenue, but a secondary source. Still have to have the square footage, the insurance and other overhead to accommodate just a few individuals every day. Odds are, even at $20 they are probably just breaking even, with the sales of ammo being the money maker. Thei house, their rules. No different than my house.

don’t forget the cost of air filtration. After talking to another owner of a indoor gun range, they have to change out the air filter almost daily to keep out all the bad ****. They also had to sift and pay for lead removal monthly. Under current law in that state he could not sell the lead scraps.

I thought this was a reloading forum.
Yep new readers sometimes come up with this ??? comment. If you have the tollerance to stick arounf you'll see that most members realize not every thread can be about bullets and powder (or "I have a bunch of 371 gr RNHP bullets but only IMR 4964 so what's a good load for my 38 Special J frame for plinking?"). I guess if you only want to read reloading stuff, you could sit in your easy chair and read a Lyman 50th...

Suppose that is why every now and then I have to make a comment about going to the unloading room! How else we ever going to know how our work performs?

I load at the range.....

I like indoor ranges, being a student of all things duct,ly connected. Using a revolver or case catcher "should" solve the brass problem. 20$ dosen't go very far in certain instances anymore. Find a new hobby?

we had a local range ( notice I said had!) that pulled that stuff - you couldn't even police your own brass!
A competitor down the road used their stupidity as a marketing tool and put them out of business!
Then bought the building and Make a fortune. Good people.

That's what my range does, we sign a full page of waivers before we enter the range and it cost me $20.

I live in rural WV. Our outdoor range has a club house with free targets, 25, 100ft 50, 100 and 160 yard targets. They have all sorts of pistol, rifle, .22 shotgun trap, etc competitions... all free to members outside of your own ammo. Members get a key to the gate and clubhouse to go whenever they want. Place has been there since the 1960's. Total cost of membership... $35/yr. :) There are around 200 members, and 90% of the time when you go, you're there by yourself if there isn't an event going on.

Could not imagine living in the big cities some of you are from. I take my own metal targets, dueling tree, cow bell, SCBA tank, etc...

We all want to live in the country, but the work is in the big city. That’s what retirement is for, moving away from Seattle. Camping is free here, anywhere you want.
