Just bought an Anschutz 1518 Nuss carbine in 22WMR. Its one with a half stock not the Mannlicher-style stock. I was under the assumption that the 22 mag develops it's max velocity out of a tube about 20" or so long, so I didn't feel like the extra mobility of the shorter barrel was a comprimise. It was a toss-up between this and a CZ 452, but I just couldn't get over how the saftey was backwards on the CZ, so I wound up spending twice the ammount on the Anschutz...but hey, quality is remembered long after price is forgotten, right? I was thinking of topping it with a Leupold VX-1 2-7 in Leupold 11mm rings. Is this a good match for shooting out to 100-150 yards on groundhogs with rabbits and squirrels mixed in? My brother owns a Anschutz 54.18 and the accuracy at 100 yards is absolutly ammazing, so this was a determining factor in my purchase. Does anyone have any experience with any of Anschutz's 22 mags? And which loadings are people using for coyote under 100 yards?

If you don't mind me asking - where did you buy this rifle? How much?
Some of my co-workers and I were talking about them, and I got the bug.
I have always wanted an Anschutz 22 caliber rifle.
As far as scope - I believe this would work for you, but a 3x9 might be more in your range.

i was torn between the Anschutz and CZ 452 American too...CDNN had the CZ for <$280.

i was really tempted by the Weatherby Mk XXII, with the 164 action like you have, but figured if i was going to spend that much anyway, i'd just go all the way to the Annie 54 action...i got the 1412 Silhouette.

with the .22 Mag, i think a better fit would be the Leopold VX-II 3-9x33mm Ultralight EFR. it's length and objective size really compliment the Annie's lines

I got it from Collector's Firearms, http://collectorsfirearms.com for $900.

I've owned 3-9x's before but I only ever had them up above 6x at the range, never when hunting. I don't want to go too high on the magnification so that I limit myself to shots in range, and also because big power means lots of weight and I like to travel light. I've never had any luck with compact scopes. I always thought they didn't deliever in the brightness/clarity department.

I can't recommend Anschutz sporters highly enough!

Think of them as Olympic match rifles that have been "milled down" to a sporter configuration.

I have a left handed 1415 in .22 LR. Most accurate rimfire sporter I have ever seen. I read somewhere that they have a slight choke in the bore towards the crown that contributes to this.

My experience is that from sandbags at 25 yds this will put 5 rounds through the same hole with stuff it likes. if I use ammo it does not like, then the groups open up to 1/4" I don't know what the twist rate is, but it shoots those Aquila 60 gr. Sniper Subsonics just fine.

Almost forgot, mine is scoped with a Trijicon Accupoint 3-9 X. This is a great hunting scope for poor light or moving game.

RSVP2RIP,

what year is your gun from and can you post a photo? I have a pre-1418 Anschütz Mannlicher-stocked Stutzen which is rare with a 54 action in .22 l.r. and am right now trying to gather as much info as possible on the 1418/1518/1733 rifles as I can.

Here is a pic of mine:

i got mine at International Shooters Supply. Neal was very nice to deal with and very informative...plus he will sometimes have sales.

i got mine a couple of years ago at his Christmas Clearence. apparently Anschutz, or their importer Markel, only make one price adjustment a year...so a price in Jan is good all year
