IN BRIEF
The national ACLU is neutral on the issue of gun control. We believe that the Constitution contains no barriers to reasonable regulations of gun ownership. If we can license and register cars, we can license and register guns.

I guess I missed the the section of the constitution that guaranteed my rights to own a car would not be infringed.

Not to rain on the parade

I don't take a lot of stock in these mammoth lists that the Joyce Foundation / Brady Campaign puts together. It's been proven in the past that they often claim endorsement under false pretense. Personally, I think if we reduced the list to only include people where were vehemently anti-gun / anti-self defense the list would not seem nearly as big or impressive.

If the list were further reduced to people who refuse to be protected by guns, then there would be no list at all - for every one of these people is protected (from time to time) by armed private security who carry by virtue of the same permit to carry that other private citizens get. A list with zero names would indeed be impressive and it makes a point - those who won't bear arms must be protected by those who do.

I think some of those people are just looking for a charity to give money to for tax purposes and get a little publicity. I think some just think they are talking about full auto machine guns and don't understand the difference when people say "assault weapons". I have run into people like that who have no problem with guns, but think we don't regulate machine guns. Once it was explained to them the difference between semi-auto and full auto and what the laws are on full auto, they thought about it a bit further.

On the OP, I don't think cars and guns are a good example for regulation. Cars/wagons are not mentioned in the Constitution; Arms are.

It might have been bit more repectful (not to mention honest) if they had taken a few minutes to just remove the names of the people that had died off the list, instead of trying to pretend they still have the active support of everyone that might have signed up years and years ago.

At a glance I saw at least four or five names of the dearly departed.

Or maybe it's like here in Chicago, where death does not dissuade them from voting either.
