Hi
Do any of you have any luck with Gander Mountain prices ?
I first asked about a Taurus 1911
Young guy told me full MSRP
talked to another young man he told me $499 .
That was a lot better .
Asked them if they ever got any Rock Island 1911s new in .
Says no but he has a used one .
Man are they high one mag no case $391 .

Are there ever any good deals at yours ?
Its about an hour away from me .
If thats the best it gets I guess i'll pass .

Thanks , Bill

I haven't been o one in about a year, but I don't remember seeing too many spectacular deals there. A Rock Island 1911 shouldn't cost you much more than $300....I got mine for $329 in Maryland no less......where every gun costs more.

I like the stores, but I wouldn't count on Gander Mountain for killer deals on fireams and related stuff.

they will beat any advertised price by either 50 bucks, or 10%, on any new gun, and on the used ones, you can knock them down. I allways get good deals there. My latest was a n.e.f. in 17 m2 , brand new, for 120 dollars.

My local Southwest Michigan Gndr Mntn has become only average, I'm sorry to say.

I've been doing business with them since they opened six years ago. For the first four years or so they were THE best place to shop for miles around.

Lately tho, their ammo prices are the worst, ammo selection is terrible, and their gun prices are average to worse than the competition. In the past, if they didn't have in stock something you wanted, they would do a search on their corporate computer to find it and get it in free, now they charge $25!

The two previous gun dept. managers would discount new guns to a frequent shopper (like me) but the one they have now won't adding, "there's a reason why the other two are gone".

Their only saving grace is they will price match if you find a better deal within sixty miles. Even that isn't as good as it was; before the price match was match plus double the difference. Now it's just a dollar for dollar match.

Nowdays, the only deals you will get is on advertised specials.

Got a like-new Ruger Mark II Target for $150 at the local GM. I recently put down some money on a really nice P225 for $400 at the same place.

However, these deals were few and far between.

I've done pretty good a Gander Mtn. Just picked up a Sig P232 for $315 (LOW):what: , bought a used but 100% USPc9 for $600 (NORMAL), a Browning Buckmark Target for $300 (GOOD):) , a Beretta NEOS for $219 (NORMAL).

Saw a perfect used Sig 239 for $440 (a great deal) and periodically some great sales on police trades. I make a point of stopping in when in the area. They turn over alot of guns so their used gun case always has new stuff. The new gun prices are normal, not to high, not too low (if that exists).
Passed on a Walther TPH for $329 :banghead:

Bill,
I see you're from PA, What Gander Mountain were you at? My cousin is the gunsmith at the one at Lycoming.

Gander Mountain prices are hit or miss. Some new gun specials are good, most are average. Some used guns are WAYYY up there, but most aren't bad. Ammo lately has been hard to get.

I don't think they should be charging you anything to look up/order a gun, unless its a deposit on the gun.

Gander has many stores from which to find used guns, which is nice if you are looking for something unusual.

The stores depend on the associates and how much they want to help the customer. Management gives employees quite a bit of leeway when it comes to pleasing the customer. I will order things that I know we can sell if someone just mentions it. I use every resource available to find what the customer is looking for. Not all associates do, and that makes the company look bad.

I have been selling guns at the new Gander Mountain in Huntsville since we opened, and most of the guys in firearms are good people.

They hire some really brilliant people their. I was in the market for a Savage 93 17hmr with heavy bbl, blue, and walnut stock. I called them, and yep they have one for $199. I verified the model number and price three times over the phone because it is a little over an hours drive for me. I asked them to hold it for me, I was on the way. I get their, and tell them I called and asked the guy to get it so I could see it. He walks over and picks up the rifle and brings it over to me. It was the left handed version, which is also a different model number.:banghead:

After chewing the department up one side and down the other the manger got involved. He ended up selling me the Stainless/laminate heavy bbl model for the same price. He did make it right, but I was not a happy shopper for a while.

And most of their prices are higher than other dealers by 10-15%, from what I have seen.

Their used guns vary. I saw an old Marlin 39 that looked like that had a mis-matched forend that was chipped in a number of places and fair butt stock and blueing for $359. OTOH I saw a used Series 70 Colt Combat Commander in electroless nickel for $400. The Colt was a little worn but worth every penny of the asking price. By the time I regained my sanity and went to pick it up it was gone. :cuss: I have a GM about 2 miles away from home and any time I'm passing by I stop in to see if they took in anything interesting used in.

Got my GI45 there... brand new for around $400... went for around 450 with tax, I think.
Their used stuff runs from 3000 for a Colt ACE .22 to around 270 or so for a Walther P1. There was a Colt(?) 1917 .45 revolver for 400 or so... but it seemed to be missing the rod/tip of the rod that locks the cylinder.

Hi Mr. White

I was at there store in Greensburg ,Pa.

I was in line there got a pound of w-231 and a box of
CCI large pistol primers . Price for primers not in system , young man at
register says walk him
back and show him where I got them .
15 people in line behind me weren't happy so I left them .
Overall disappointing trip .
I am glad most of you are having better experiences .

Thanks , Bill

I forgot to add.
Mostly at gunshows around here new ones go for about $350 .
Told them guy on Gunbroker has them everyday
for $325 shipped . I would still have to pay $20 transfer .
But they still didn't care $391 for a used one .
I am sure someone will buy it for that .
I hate to see people overpay so much.
See it all the time on E-bay .

Funny you should ask...

I was in the Local Gander Mountain on Saturday for some primers. They wanted $2.99 for 100 CCI 550's, which the local gun store has for $2.19. Wolf 7.62x39 was $3.99/box, while MidwayUSA has it for closer to $2.75/box. I also noticed a box (20 count) of Federal 416 Rigby. Hold on to your hats, $299.00!!!:what: MidwayUSA will sell you the same thing for $169.00. Add $3/pound for powder compared to local gun store.

I also had my eye on a Browning 22 auto that has been languishing on the rack. Seeing all the kids running around handling the guns didn't make me want to buy anything off their racks, but this one called to me and I felt like saving it from a horrible fate (rust was already forming on the crown and bolt, and has very recently started forming on the receiver). I asked the guy if they had any room to move on the prices, and he replied by describing how little money they make on guns, etc, etc. That seemed odd since their price was $60 higher than Walmart, and Walmart's gun aren't rusted.

I don't do much shopping there, needless to say.

I don't think that I've ever seen a good deal on a used rifle at a Gander Mountain. I've seen them try to sell Mosin-Nagants for $149.99, and a used Garand that was sporterized into a *snicker* full-length stock (Mannlicher-style?) with a chromed bolt and a decorative diamond design on the side for $1500.

It's a shame, I think that sometimes they buy old mil-surps from people and "sporterize" them in their gunsmithing department. I saw a Krag that fell to the knife and then wedged into a stock meant for a Winchester model 70 or thereabouts.

I routinely shop the GM stores in Castleton and Greenwood, Indiana (Far north and far south sides of Indy, respectively) and will occaisonally come across decent prices on USED firearms.

I paid too much for a used CZ 40-P out of my own neglect; I didn't do enough research.

I bought a brand new Beretta 9000s 9mm on one of their "hot buys" for $349. Now they can't give away their remaining stock at that same price.

Bought a used (but 100%) Walther P99 in 9mm the other day for $450 + tax. I DID do my homework on this one, though. I looked on a few of the big online auction sites and found that the lowest prices were all around $450 as well. Consider the savings on shipping and transfer fee, but add in sales tax, and it was basically a wash. A LNIB Walther P99 for a hair under $500 isn't bad in my estimation!

I've also asked multiple sales people at both of these stores if they're able to negotiate at all on their used prices; and have been told every time that they're not permitted.

Too bad, too, for one store has a great looking DGFM (Argentine) BHP for about $130-ish above what it should be. The seller made out on that deal!

Cheapest I saw Wolf 7.62x39 at MidwayUSA was $3.29/box and everything was out.

Hit or miss.

That is certainly true. I watched their site for some time before they finally got some in. I placed an order on 10/13/06 for 1000 rounds for $142, which works out to $2.84 per box. I haven't checked their prices/availability recently.

GM is kind of hit or miss in my area (Rockford, IL).

They did have the largest stock of ammo of any place in the area, but lately they are out of a lot of stuff. But so is everyone else.

I bought a nice Walther P1 from them. $239. Came with holster and 2 mags. Always wanted a P38, and this is a near copy. Cool. I like old guns.

I have looked at their gun prices from time to time, and some seem pretty good, others seem a little high. I think they are like every other store. Some things they sell at better prices than others.

I have not looked a lot at their used gun prices.

New guns: if it's an advertised "Hot Buy" or other special, otherwise they're right in line with everyone else around here.

Used guns: Hit or Miss, I've gotten a couple of deals and have also done the *:what: , scratches head, "They want that for that piece of junk, You've got to kidding me ?!?!?!" on others that I have not purchased.

Ammo/reloading supplies. Again Hit or Miss, all depends on what I'm looking for. Although I saw lead shot went from $21.99 a bag to $33.00 a bag in one week. That's the market (China and India are sucking up tons of metal these days) not GM.

At the one in Beaumont they had Federal power shock 308 ammo 180 grain sp
for 9.88 a box so I got 5 boxes going back Wed to see if they have any more

Seems the depressed economy in michigan is helping used gun sales. I have seen in my local GM a 4" 629-1 for $299 Hi-Power MKII $299 and a Taurus PT-92 for $189. Only decent rifle in the used rack was a Tikka M695 300 win mag with a heavy barrel and target stock for $400. A few of these didnt last long.

Sometimes the new guns go on sale but usually they are average pricing which seems to be higher than national averages I see quoted here. Maybe its just a michigan thing.

I just finished putting a Rem 700 Tactical 6.8SPC on layaway for $699, they're going for $800+ on the internet and at all the other dealers...

I've only been there once. Got a good deal on some 00 buckshot, a T-shirt and a can coozie.
