I'm looking for an inside the waist band holster for a CZ75 p01 compact. It has the factory Green poly coating finish. I want a holster thats not going to wear or scratch the finish. Any ideas on one? Thanks

A good IWB holster that secures the gun properly with solid, passive retention is going to wear your finish over time, there's simply no way to avoid it. Regular plastic holsters tend to produce hard wear in a few specific spots whereas leather holsters tend to wear less aggressively but the wear is usually spread out more. Kydex holsters tends to have a wear pattern similar to regular plastic but it sometimes spreads out more if it's a tight fitting holster.

Soft leather or fabric holster will wear less, but they also make terrible holsters because they require an active retention system to properly secure the weapon and the holster material can collapse or bend and catch the trigger upon re-holstering.

Remember, it's mostly drawing and holstering that causes wear, so the less you practice the less the gun will wear. Of course, that's not a good thing since it's a pretty good idea to practice often with your carry gun.

My recommendation is to get a good, solid holster, practice a lot, and when the finish wears down to an unacceptable level have it refinished by CZ.

Fourth law of thermodynamics: You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Best you can do is have a really durable gun. Stainless is good. Cerakote is good. Having it dunked in chrome or nickel is good. In my experience, kydex is kinder than leather or nylon, and your standard blued finishes are going to be the least durable.

While I agree with your point (I think), the saying is "Eat your cake, and have it too."

An excerpt from the Milt Sparks "Questions" section.

The act of drawing your pistol from whatever container you choose to carry your weapon in, creates friction at the points of contact, and eventually those points will begin to show signs of wear. For that reason it would be unreasonable to expect that your personal sidearm will remain in pristine condition forever. It matters not whether your holster is lined or un-lined, as a lined holster simply delays the inevitable. If you practice hard your guns finish will wear, or maybe it would be better to say, develop character. You will have to learn to deal with it.

This is not to say we are insensitive to our customers concerns about holster wear, its just that the reality of the matter sucks. Holsters whether they are made of plastic, leather, horsehide/cowhide, lined or un-lined, soft leather/ hard leather do not protect gun finishes as much as we would like. Nobody in the industry (at least the ones that are honest about it) can claim they have the solution in their product.

I know its just a matter of time until it gets it first of many blemishs. I paid what is a lot of money to me and am going to try to delay that as long as possible. As a ccw gun I know I am fighting the inevitable.

You're probably the guy that bought the one I was hoping to get recently! You get it on Armslist? Far as the holster goes, I don't think there is such a thing as a holster that retains the gun well that won't wear the finish over time. Just live with it and get it refinished a couple times in your lifetime if it bothers you.

No Mine came from a local store in Ohio.

We haven't really offered up any specific recommendation, just the generic wear comments, so here are some on specific holsters/makers...
