Any OCS Grads Around?

Hey all,
Give this thread a lil' bumpy bump - I'm in for next summer, family called from the permanent address to let me know the acceptance package came today.

Big week for me - new gun, first law school finals, and an acceptance to Marine OCS. :D

Congrats man

Mail me some MARPAT!

I also suggest reading One Bullet Away by Capt. Nathaniel Fick USMC

Read that one a while ago ;) Girlfriend's reading it now.
I'm looking forward to getting through "Shooter" this winter once I expunge all this jibber jabber about contracts I've been pounding in for a week.

That was me that recommended One Bullet Away, posting on g/f's computer. I read it, and now she's supposed to be reading it, she made it to the Afghanistan part anyway. Excellent book.

Don't get your hopes up about Shooter though. I thought it was pretty bad. 2 out 5 stars. The man's ego is way too big for the Corps it seems. I'm sorry I wasted my money on it.

As an Officer you'll have a list of books you are expected to read of course.

Other books I can say are good:

Generation Kill by Evan Wright (Rolling Stone Writer), about his time with Fick's Platoon in Iraq

The March Up by Bing West about the 1st Divisions March to Baghdad

No True Glory also by West about the fight for Fallujah

That's as far as my OIF reading has gotten thus far but I did get The Gift of Valor for myself for x-mas. If you know of any other good books about the USMC in Iraq or Afghanistan feel free to let me know.

LET THE PT-FEST BEGIN!

Do you own an alice pack/ oldschool LC-2 LBE ? If not, get some and start running with it... the juniors here at El Cid are going to be PT'ing every weekday morning this semester, and we had 0% attrition of midns at OCS last summer.

On the other hand, UPENN (where my buddy is a Marine Mid) had 0 successful completions for one of the sections of OCS--coincidentally, they only pt twice a week...

Agreed on the PT thing... Being a Marine Corps JAG is going to be different than going with any of the other DCL programs, although those have changed since I graduated law school. Did I read you correctly as saying you're a 1L now looking at your first semester's exams?

Yep I'll need to crank it up. My PFT was ~270 last time I ran one a couple months back.

I am currently a 1L with exams having started this week.
