Anybody ever find an SKS scope mount that was worth the money?

Most are crap.

Kalinka.com has a rail that bolts (you drill and tap the holes) to the receiver. A scope then can be attached to the rail.

Thanks. I have a Topco front sight on it - a very thin post - and the factory rear. I understand most of the mounts available are a waste of time, but there is always hope...
I have heard the set screw type are the best.

Still not sure it's worth the effort.

I have this and absolutely love it! It is expensive ($60), but works great. Easy to install with no permanent modifications. I have a cheap red dot on it now and has made my SKS a lot more fun to shoot (which I didn't think was possible). I've always loved that gun!

IMHO SKS were not made to have scopes

I came to the conclusion, when I put a cheap scope on a SKS Paratrooper, that for my shooting abilities, NO scope! A SKS with it's original stock was meant not to have a scope. This Paratrooper also had a cheap folding stock. The rifle also took extended round duckbill clips. With extended round clips, the are hard to aim, unless you have a bipod, as are AK's. The 10 rnd SKS configuration, is just easier to aim and shoot. If you've mastered stripper clips, you're ready to raise some hell. Even AK's with 20-30 rnd clips are difficult to aim without a bipod. So what I'm try to say, SKS with original wood stock is probably best left original w/o a scope. I may try the other optics like others mentioned on my SKS but probably not. AK's are meant to lay a spray down. I'm still kicking myself for selling the SKS Paratrooper but I just turned the cash over for for more ammo. So I'm left with my SKS and AK, I have several other weapons, that meet a particular function, so I'm good to go. Except maybe a Draco AK pistol. Big boys want but don't need their toys!
Norinco SKS, Norinco MAK 90, Norinco 9mm Tokarev, Hi-Point 9mm Carbine, Remington 870 Police issue, Winchester model 72 22 a real classic.

I was researching this last night and found this article and solution to the problem of scope steadiness on the SKS. http://www.surplusrifle.com/reviews/choatesksscope/index.asp

Its from Choate and requires a little machining (tapping a couple of screw holes). The result is a solid mount, you can still see and use your irons if the need arises and you will not need to remove the scope mount for cleaning.

The improvement in your groups with an SKS at 100 yards will be moderate because of the rifle regardless of how good a scope you use or how steady the mount. For those with poor vision perhaps it is more worth while.

I am plan on getting an SKS, and am shopping if anyone is looking to sell.

I agree about keeping the SKS as stock as possible - to me that's part of what I like about the rifle - it is very simple, and it's great at what is is supposed to do.

I will probably just spend a little more range time with it - might just help.

Thanks,

I have found though 20+ years of shooting SKS' the only optic upgrade worth the $$$ IMOO are tech-sights. I have them on mine and they are wonderfully accurate, simple and very rugged. I like them so much that I'm hoping santa leaves me some for my AK.
