I carry either a Ruger Speed Six 2.75"bbl with Critical Duty 125gr. .357mag, or I carry a Ruger LCR .38spl loaded with Winchester Ranger/PDX1 130gr.

If I am wearing the right clothes, ie suit or blazer or loose pants, I carry a S&W Model 36 snubbie. It works well with a pocket holster.

I carry either a GP100 4" .327 in a R Grizzle Georgia Snap or a Charter Southpaw .38 in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster. When I go to Atlanta I carry both.

My favorite gun for around town or while hiking or wade fishing here in the Missouri Ozarks is my Smith and Wesson 638 lightweight Bodyguard .38 Special. I'm not particularly worried about 4 legged critters, just the two legged varmints that you can meet up with in the back country. I'm a retired Sheriff's deputy and also worked private bodyguard duty for years, and after carrying several dozen handguns both on and off duty, I find the Smith J frames to be a good, fool proof choice for all around carry.

Make that another SP101 3" here. Heavy enough to absorb recoil, light enough to carry. It's no airweight - but I prefer it that way since I'll be shooting it frequently. Carry what you are proficient with.

Not to mention having a carry item that can double as a woods/trail gun is handy too - something with enough beef to it to handle some of the stout woods loads.

In town if I'm too lazy to put on a proper holster and Glock up, I'll slip a 642 in my pocket with a Blackhawk pocket holster. In my pocket right now, had to run up the street to the drugstore.

Out in the country on private land, I usually tote around a Cimmaron Model P in .45 Colt. I do have field type holsters for my 28-2, my 1917 and even my .38 M&P in a pinch. The Cimarron is my go-to though, 'cause to me "woods gun" means big bore single action. Just feels right.

I carried a Taurus 85 SS for 20 years between my front pocket and iwb. work or play decided for me were it was carried. Still looks good after 26 years

I carry Dan Wesson revolvers in the woods for hunting. The 357 was wearing a 8" barrel till 2 years ago. 44mag top with a 8" barrel and burris 135 speed dot, 347 wearing a 4" barrel.

I have carried a j-frame off and on over the past eight years. Have at times carried a snub model 10-5 too. Sometimes carry a j-frame in addition to an auto.

tomrkba - Gotta love the 624. Here's my 24:

I was r-e-a-l-l-y looking at a nice 624 but couldn't go for the N frame. For that much gun, I have the 629. What I would grab is a model like my Taurus 430 that is 5 shot on a medium frame.

I bought a Glock 36 back in 2012 specifically as a conceled carry gun and its seen a lot of time in the IWB holster I bought to go with it. Around six months ago, though, I bought a S&W 386NG (7-shot, 2.5 inch, .357mag, alloy L-Frame) and its been seeing more and more carry time recently. I'd say I'm probably splitting carry time pretty evenly between the two right now.

My hiking companion; a S&W 66-5 with 3.25" barrel (actually 3.125"), Hi-Viz front sight, black square notch rear, Ahrends cordia wood and an Andrews Leather McDaniel II.

The only times I carry a revolver is when I'm out in the woods.

Here's a 7 foot Eastern Diamondback from today's hike. :)

My wilderness wheelgun is my SBH in .44 mag.
If I'm carrying a little closer to home, but still in the woods, my Dan Wesson 15-2 with the 6" barrel. If I'm carrying it urban, it's IWB with a 2.5" bbl, but I usually carry my XDS .45
