I am 63. At the moment my ccw guns range from a PPK to an XD9SC to one of two XD45 Compacts. As soon as I get holsters for them I will also add 2 S&W Mountain Guns in 45 Colt to my carry list. In fact the Mt Guns may become my primary CCW pieces because I just happen to like revolvers. Btw, I shoot them all pretty doggone well.

When I am legally able to carry (I live in IL) I carry a Sig P228. I like the capacity, the accuracy, and the ease of reloading versus that of a revolver.

Either way either one will be a good choice for carry.

I'm 34 and carry a 1911 99% of the time, as I am unconcerned with concealment 99% of the time. On the 1% of times I atually care that my gun be definitley concealed, and VERY unlikely to be seen, I carry a S&W m637 .38spl.

I'm 57 yoa. I've been some kinda Cop for 31 years. I've been in 6 standup gunfights. I'm not the character in a movie or Tv show so I know I don't need a HI-Cap Auto. I've never even talked to someone who's needed a Hi-Cap Auto in a gunfight. My Boss wants me to carry a Glock 22 when I work so I do. When I’m out on my own I often carry a Colt SAA. I’ve never fired more than 4 rounds in a fight.
I didn't read every post. Has anyone here ever fired more than say 6 rounds in a fight, not including a military situations.

I got my LCP amd have been carrying it after a trip to the range and no malfunctions. This guns thin small accurate and holds more rounds than my 38 I was carrying. This is now my new carry gun.I will cary both somtimes but if it's just one the LCP will be it.

I like revolvers better than autos...the way they look, the way they feel, and the way they shoot. But autos are thinner. They go better in your pocket. So that's what I carry.

I'm 23, and I carry an auto. I like the quicker reloads, and I shoot pretty well with it. I would like to buy a revolver at some point, but being married gives me a VERY limited firearms budget.

I vaguely remember the Kennedy/Nixon debates, and I ALWAYS carry a Smith J-frame Centennial. It's a shame I can barely remember the debates, and don't remember what I had for breakfast!

Seriously, the revolver goes into the right front pocket ~ 10 seconds after I get dressed. If I feel the need, I might shift the J-frame to the left front pocket and strap on a 3" K-frame in a strong-side pancake holster. It's just sooooooo easy to pocket carry a "hammerless" Smith. Just have to blow the dust bunnies out every now and then.

If for some reason, I really feel the need to kit up, I replace the K-frame with a G19 or Colt LWC in .45. I think I've done that on < 3 or 4 occasions.

This morning at work, I had my USP 45 & my 442 for my BUG -- how should I answer?
As to why?....because they've proven themselves 100% reliable, dependable and rugged :D

Auto and I'm 35 or older (70).

Because it's easier to carry totally concealed 24/7/365, it holds more ammo, reloads are faster, magazines carry concealed better than a speedloader or moon clips.

Over 40 here and my main CCW is a Glock27. I carry a Smith 642 as a BUG. The Glock for capacity and quick reloading the revolver because 5 for sure is a comfort. Carry an extra magazine for the Glock and 2 speedloaders for the Smith

Interesting thread. What I find most interesting is reading comments about Auto vs. Revolver on Boards, and most agree that the revolver is more reliable. Then in the poll more carry the Auto.

Disenfranchised again!

No valid answer in the poll for me; I carry both autoloader and revolver, often at the same time, and I am age 46, if that matters.

I guess I should have put an option for both
And also what do you carry?
That would be intresting to see how many people carry 2 guns

My first handgun was a S&W 642 because I was concerned by comments on the Internet about the failure to feed issue with semi-autos. After a few years of carrying, the notion grew on me that I would not have time to reload in a serious situation, nor that five rounds were enough, and nor that .38 Special out of a two inch barrel was enough. Plus, accuracy sucked. I studied reviews on semi-autos on the Internet and bought a semi-auto in 9mm, single stack, with a three point seven inches barrel. That 9mm uses twice the pressure of .38 Special and that this barrel is longer than that of the snubby, and that it holds seven plus one rounds with the ability to reload within seconds by pushing in a new magazine, makes it a clear winner for every day carry, and, its accuracy is five times better. It only has issues with Sellier&Bellot ammo. In the woods I carry a four inches .357 magnum. I'm leaning towards a Colt .38 Super 1911 as my step up concealed carry piece. I'm getting more and more interested in accuraracy. A clean shot in the head is the preferred.

Auto for capacity, and I'll admit, the image. I don't carry open, but when I first started shooting and buying guns, I went for auto's cuz they look cooler. Now I'm positively obsessive about researching gun purchases before I throw down the money, but I still don't own any revolvers.

Perhaps. I didn't play fair. I actually carry both. Revolver is the primary for reliability issues(and power), auto for BUG due to ease of deep concealment.

It's jsut my honest opinion but most people carry an auto for the same reason a minimum.

They carry more ammo. I also believe that it's the whole they fire faster (slightly) than revolvers thing IMO.

Someone else said coolness factor and I would have to agree I find the auto to have a "cooler" more aggressive design than a revolver, but that doesn't say much because I don't know anyone that wouldn't piss of $#!t themselves if any type of gun, be it revolver, auto pistol, bolt action rifle, semi-auto rifle, hell even a muzzle loader rifle/pistol, was pointed at them. With that said coolness factor would probably only be a variable to the shooter as it would make them more comfortable to use. Of course beauty "coolness" is in the eyes of the beholder.

tblt,

Whether I carry one or the other usually depends on where I'm going, how I'm dressed, and what I'll be doing. A small wheelgun and a couple of speed strips is often just right. Occasionally something more seems right.

I carry both, I am over 35.
I usually carry a revolver, mainly due to smaller size, but also due to the fact that when I was a leo, thats what I carried and trained with. Man I am OLD !!!!

was thinking of something..

Blackpowder revolvers - Not only are they accurate, if you miss, you have a smoke screen to bug out of harms way. And in most places, no FFL required...
