anyone else collect cartridges? (or looking to sell single cartridges)?

I recently inherited a small cartridge collection and have started adding to it. It is kind of addicting, and I was wondering if anyone else out there wasted hours online and in gunshops looking for that cartridge you have been hoping to add to you collection.

I thought it might be cool if there were some way to connect the THR habitues who trade, or sell cartridges.

My collection is prettty modest right now, and I am currently searching for a .52 Spencer , a .450 Martini-Henry (Boxer-Henry .45), .44 Henry, .22 Johnson, and some of the bigger handgun cartridges - .45 WinMag, .460 Rowland , .480 Ruger, .475 Linebaugh, .50 AE, .50 GI, .500 S&W.

If anybody has these single cartridges they are willing to sell, let me know!

I collect cartridges also. If you search around on the net, there are some cartridge collecting clubs and individuals selling duplicates.

I just went through my collection and traded off duplicates. I had extra .45 WinMag, .480 Ruger, .50 AE and .500 SW. If you would have posted this about a week ago, I'd have sent them to ya. I wouldn't mind finding some .50 GI for myself though.

At the most recent gunshow last week, I managed to pick up a Maynard (still researching it), .25-25, Velo Dog and a .22 Rem Jet. Slowly but surely collecting...the problem is that it's expensive.

My favorites to collect are wildcats and idiot cartridges. By that I mean the .308 fired in a -06 chambered gun or the .40 fired in a .45 ACP. Reminds me how easy it is to screw up handloading.

If you look very carefully, there's a single 9mm case on the very top between the 25mm and the steel penetrator on the left. Nothing really special about the case itself, but it has significant meaning to me. The case is from an AD a friend had in my apartment one night. Speer 124 +P Gold Dot through my kitchen. By far, the single most important case up there. Hopefully, it will be the only one of it's kind.

Every time I go to the range I keep a few rounds of what ever it is I happened to be shooting, so I suppose you could say I collect cartridges.

I've got the equivalent or maybe 1/4 of that bottom shelf.

A few months ago I was at Mike Irwin's house and he showed me his collection.

I had NO idea that they came in such an amazing array of sizes and shapes.

He has several for machine guns that are just enormous.

I collect cartridges, but so far only from guns that I have fired. It is actually a surprisingly large, with a total of 15 differant calibers/gauges. The following is a pic of the colelction, and a few other knick-knacks I've collected, like a Gulf-war era anti-personel mine and an original(as far as I can tell) WW2 German gas mask and case I bought for $20 at a flea market.

If anyone wants a .244 Remington for their collection I recently got 40 rounds(2 boxes) of Remington Hi-Speed soft point, and I would be willing to trade for any center-fire cartridge I don't have.

I also collect cartridges, and whenever I can get 2 or more examples of the same cartridge, I'll section one to show how it works, how it's constructed, etc. Here's an example of the only shot I have handy right now, a .30 Carbine next to a 5.7x28mm FN round, sectioned and whole.

Thought I knew exactly where it was, but I can't locate it. You would think in a 1500 sq. ft. house, you wouldn't lose stuff. You would be wrong.

I will post it in a couple of days. It would be better anyway if I could post it next to an unfired round, which I can acquire.

Let me say this. There isn't enough brass in a Weatherby to fill the chamber in an Ultra Mag.

Hey SDC, how do you cut through a primer safely?

I started to section a round just like you've done, but I chickened out once i got to the base. I didn't want the saw to set off the primer and any powder that may have missed.

This is a board my grandad did, probably in the '60s. His hobby was wiring old junk to boards. This isn't valuable, except for the sentimental value.

Grandad died in 1984 at the age of 81. Yes, he was a Model 1903.

I have five sealed boxes of these 30-06 rounds.. The 45 ACP box is 2-3 rounds short, headstamp is 1932.

My favorite are the .41 short - so odd looking, and the .50 BMG. I found both the spent slug and the case while hiking on an old arial gunnery range in southern AZ (just east of Goldwater range).

esheato, I have some .41 magnums that I test fired in a ,44 magnum a few years ago.

Accuracy was horrible but the cases are actually reuseable.

I sized some back to ,41 and they worked fine.

If you will remind me after I get out of this hell hole I'll send you a couple.

Umm... if any of y'all'd be interested in a round of factory 44AMP, I'd be willing to part with 'em. The original factory loads could be, well, not quite safe for a gun that's hard to find spare parts for...

Headless Thompson Gunner, to section a primer, I give it a good shot of penetrating oil like WD-40, then let it sit for a few hours; after that, I can cut through it with a hacksaw with no problem, then file it flat. If you try this with a bench grinder or belt sander, the primer WILL cook off, no matter how much oil you spray into it.
BTW, does anyone have a couple of rounds of the 8mm Lebel Balle D (solid bronze bullet) that they'd be willing to sell? This is one of the rounds that I'd really like to do a cutaway of, but haven't been able to find any. Right now, I've got 396 individual calibres catalogued, some (like the 9mm Luger)with more than a hundred individual cartridges of varying types. It's definitely an addictive hobby

I thought you hard core ammo collectors would like my favorite item in my collection. I have a full 20rd box of 45-70 blanks for a line thrower used by the Navy. I also have the line thrower too. I have also attached a pic that shows my live 40mm flare and live 20mm.

I loved that 5.7 cutaway. You could sell those cutaways. I can get some of the armor piercing 5.7's to you if you would like some. Maybe we could trade a cutaway job on one for me.
