Guys, I feel your pain. I've been working in the oil fields in North Dakota this summer. Being that I live in the mountains of Wyoming, North Dakota is not only a culture shock but a reality check on the weather. Temps in the 90's with humidity to match! Unfortunately guns are almost illegal here so shooting hasn't been much of an issue, on the other hand....
For a Wyoming mountain boy to see one of those HUGE dust devils (tornadoes) twisting across the plains is un-nerving to say the least. There I sat trying to calculate whether a 200mph tornado could actually lift and carry away a 40 ton Peterbilt with me in it. I didn't like the answer.
Two and a half more months and I'm outta here!!! If you think 100+ temps are ugly, imagine -40 degrees with 60 mph winds, no thanks. The Norse can keep North Dakota after Halloween.
Foto Joe the wife and I drove over to Seymour, Texas to eat at Smoky Bros bar be que joint. We were sitting there quietly eating our brisket when the building began to shake violently. There was the very loud sound of ripping metal and then the lights went out.
A large and powerfull whirlwind had ripped the metal roof completely off the building and thrown it onto the power line.
Everyone ran out of the place except me and the wife. We continued to eat.
I have never seen a summer like this. I range-officered a CHL class Saturday. We had 18 students, had to safety instruct and have them in small groups fire at 3, 7 & 15 yrds, so I spent nearly 3 hours in the 4-7 pm sun engaged in zero significant physical activity, and nearly died. I was dipping a towel into ice water and draping it over my shoulders just to stay verticle. CRAZY heat. 108 in the shade.
Never saw an armadillo in my 2.5 years in Austin. But then again I'm sure their biggest predator (cars) kept them to a minimum within the city limits. Daggum though if didn't trap and kill at least five of them varmits in my backyard here in Orlando last year. I don't waste the holly black to kill them rather I use my Ruger Single Six to pop them in the head then toss them in the trash.
I have had few around lately, perhaps because the last few attempted to occupy the same space and time as a .22LR bullet or a cloud of #6 shot. Saw what might be digginh signs this morning down by the horse stalls, exactly where I least want the armored devils. They are a vector for a nerve disease in horses so I tend to not much care for them.
just when i think i have seen it all, all of it... someone shows me a picture of an armadillo drinking beer. i hear you can make good helmets out of them hehe!
We broke our string of 56 consecutive days over 100° today. Only made it to 96° and I had 0.3 inch of rain in my back yard rain gauge. That makes exactly 2 inch of rain total here since October.
