Anyone else have the “itch”

My buddy who lets me hunt his place called me last night to tell me he saw 7 does walk past his house that afternoon. He's ready for me to come out and hunt.

I've been feeling so drowsy and sluggish lately....I hope I have the energy to hunt this season!!

Starting to get the itch for squirrel season, which opens Sept. 1st. Got my CZ-455 all set to go. It's been a cooler than average summer around here so far with rainfall a little above normal. Average high for today is 80 degrees and we only hit 74 today. Been a good year for the ticks and mosquitos, as I've had to remove 4 or 5 ticks from myself so far. The solution for skeeters, ticks, and not yet open hunting seasons is fishing on the big lake, ( Ontario ). Get out a few times every summer with a couple fishing guides that I know. Was out a couple Sundays ago and we did well on King Salmon and Lake Trout. Here's my step-granddaughter with her salmon that she fought with for quite a while. View attachment 1168021. Hope this isn't too far off topic but there's nothing open that I hunt yet and at least when you are miles from shore there's no insect hassles. Gotta scratch the hunting & fishing itch any way you can until fall arrives.
That's what I've been doing. Got a 5' shark at Myrtle beach a month ago

I'm trying to do this on my phone, so , anyways after I retire I think I will be going back to PA to hunt deer, I've been thinking of this a lot lately. To be with my cousins more than anything. Probably flintlock hunting.

Heavy frost this morning. It was 94 last Monday… I’m really getting the itch this morning!
I’ve been “scratching” by getting all the ammo ready to run… my dads 270 stuff is already done last year…

If I had more time while in S.Carolina last month I would have done a fishing charter. except I was too busy deer hunting, LOL. Probably out of the Myrtle Beach area. My buddy & his wife are nearby in Murrels Inlet and he loves fishing, (& hunting). I have only fished salt water once and it's on my bucket list to do it again. Had the itch for that ever since I spent a summer as a lifeguard on the N. Carolina coast many years ago. Might just git'er done next year. P.S. Congrats on the fish!

I used to live down there and fished for years out of Winyah Bay, which is below Murrel's Inlet. Made some of the best memories of my life down there....that was back in the mid-to-late 1990s.....

Looks like great times out of Winyah bay. Congrats and nice pix. Now I'm back to itching for deer season, even though bow is currently open. Recently changed SD cards on the trail cams on my friend's land, and got a series of pictures of two small bucks battling it out. First time I ever got something like that on a trail cam and I've been messing with trail cams for 10-12 years now. These are guaranteed to give deer hunters the "itch". Plus; they are about 10 yards in front of a ground blind. Got a total of 16 pix from these two sparring in front of the camera. Some were blurred due to motion but here's four of the best shots. Now I'm really starting to get the "itch". WGI_4565.JPG .. WGI_4567.JPG .. WGI_4569.JPG .. WGI_4570.JPG .. I get lots of deer pictures in front of that blind, except 98% of them are at night. Which is why I don't use that blind much anymore.

So, does anyone else remember getting poison ivy as a kid and being told, “you can’t scratch it?” Remember how that felt like you imagined torture must be?
I’ve missed bow season and muzzleloader season in my home county and am currently missing bear season. I will have missed bow season where my hunting land is in two weeks. I haven’t been one time. I keep a go bag and whatever weapon the current season dictates in the trunk at all times in case I get a chance and haven’t used them a single time. I make plans and work my rear off to clear time in my schedule only for someone to demand my time. It’s usually work, and sometimes the family. I try not to get mad about it, and don’t when it’s the family but I’m about to lose it. I’m coming to the realization that I only have a fleeting amount of time that I’m physically able to be outdoors and I’m getting quite ill (southern use of that word, meaning anger, not sick) that I’m pissing them away.

You have to make time for these things. Since I was a young lad I wanted to hunt moose (which would require planning and travel since I've always lived in the South). Well, I grew up, and when I had the time to do it, I didn't have the money, and when I had the money, I didn't have the time. Now, my knees wouldn't be able to take such a hunt, and I never did get my moose.

Make time for your hunts while you still have the body to do it.

My point exactly. I’m well aware of those realities, and as time goes by it’s like watching a car crash that one is powerless to stop. I’m screaming “get out there while you can” to myself while the realities of life reply, “not so fast.”
