Anyone even seen a SIG P-227 out there?

Finally, SIG has come through with a full-size pistol in .45 ACP that carries a few more rounds ... but where is it? It was my understanding the gun was already in the pipeline, but some stores that stock SIG-Sauers haven't even heard of it ...

Anyone actually seen a live one? Handled one? Shot one? I'm curious about impressions on the feel, such as, does it have that great, ergonomic made-for-the-hand feel of most SIG P-series pistols, or is the grip just too big (like the FN-45s)?

I haven't seen one, but I have seen a few P224s. That one took a few years to get out. I wouldn't hold my breath for a 227 sighting. It'll be a bit. The advantage it has is that it shares a slide with the P220.

How about a P227 with a 5" barrel/longslide upper from a P220 match?

Niiiiice.

I've seen them. Look just like a 226 that shoots .45.

If you've handled a 226, you've handled a 227. Which is in itself a work of art.

scrubber3,

you've seen them where? at a trade show or at a gun store actually for sale?

Gun store. Next time I go to work, I'll look at it more closely... Though it is just like a 226

I'm buying the first one I see. Meanwhile I'm looking for another 1911 to scratch the itch. Wanting a full size 2 tone steel. But the Wiley Clapp Commander I looked at today may come home with me next week.

Sig P227

Ya know the P220 is a reasonable handfull for us small to medium handed guys.

Worry that the double stack would be a real handful.

But No, I haven't seen one except on Guns & Ammo TV.

My local gunshop has had one in stock for several weeks - asking $899 for it. I have several SIGs, including a P226, P220 Carry, and a P220 Compact. The P227 grip feels "chunkier" in my average size hands than a P226. I had been considering one until I handled it. I'll stick with my P220s.

I saw one at a gun show in Salem Va a few weeks back (879 I think) it felt kinda like the 226's and 229's it was laying beside maybe a tad more bulky in the grip compared to E2 equipped P series. The p220 just above it still felt superior in my hand.

I'm holding out for the right 220 to come along.

I would be interested in one if it at least comes close to the size and feel of my old P-226 and my newer P-229 E2. I have always liked the dimensions of those two guns, especially as I have small to medium sized hands. It would be nice if SIG could make a high capacity .45 that still retained the trimness and grip contours of the 9mm. designs.

It would be nice if the grip felt better. In fact, I was prepared to buy the one for sale locally until I handled it. It didn't feel nearly as good in my hand as my P220s, and only holds 2 more rounds. Afterward, the salesman handed me an FN 45. It held 14 rounds, and didn't appear any bigger than the SIG P227. I enjoy shooting my P226 and P228, so am used to double-stack SIGs, but was disappointed with the feel of this one.

Disappointing to hear about the grip. Still need to feel one for myself. May need to just look for the right P-220 :-(

I actually love the feel of it as I have big mittens. I'm just reserved to buy one because I've never shot one. Assuming it shoots as well as the 220, it'll be great.

Also, I believe the FNX holds 15 rounds in the mag. The earlier FNP also holds 15.

Scrubber,

I have never fired an FN pistol - I apologize if I have mistaken the number of rounds the magazine holds. The salesman simply handed it to me after I held the P227 so that I could see that it felt about the same in the hands but held several more rounds. He felt that was part of the reason why they'd had the P227 in stock for awhile and hadn't been able to sell it.

The P227 appeared to be a very well-built pistol, and would probably be a great pistol for someone with larger hands. The P220 just fits my hands perfectly. I would just recommend that anyone with smaller or average size hands hold one if possible before buying.

IMHO, the sig 220 and 227 are far superior to the FN pistols. Now, if your talk about carbines.... The SCAR platform beats out any rifle Sig has to offer. Hands down.

The advantage I see in a P227 over the P220 (and this is pretty much a nitpick) is that double stack magazines taper toward the top, making it a tad easier on timed reloads. Single stack magazines are a little trickier. But the 220 grip is good with me. I have pretty big mitts.

Well, thanks for the replies, guys. I have decent sized hands, and pretty much all the SIGs fit my hands like custom-made gloves, so the concept of a double-stack .45 SIG got me pretty excited.

I'm still actively lookin' for one of these critters. Even if the grip's a tad bigger than the 226, it'll be a SIG -- for my money, the most accurate out-of-the box production autos made -- and if it's as soft-shooting as the 220, it's gotta be a winner.

If a normal p226/229 feels good the p227 will also IMHO.

I've meant to buy the short trigger and E2 grip for my 229 to make it feel better. I have to rotate it slightly to engage the decocker.

With the right floor plate, yes they hold 15. If the sig held the same, I'd probably trade up

The FNP (FNX predecessor) used to ship with 2 14s and a 15 or maybe the other way around. The 15 had a large cupped floorplate to add an extra round. The 14s were flat. It doesn't surprise me that they went to 15 across the board for the FNX, because a few years ago I wanted the FNP but I decided against it because spare magazines were few and far between. I don't know if holster selection improved yet either for the FNP/FNX, but the P227 has a pre-existing form factor.

15 from the factory. I assure you. You get 3 15 round mags from FN with the purchase of a FNX45. Ask me how I know.

Oh sorry, I was talking about the FNP45. That one came with one 15 rounder and two 14 rounders. Newer ones came with three 15 rounders I think. Then the FNX shift came.

I converted my 14 round mags to 15 rounders with the change of a floor plate. .

I'll take 15 rounds over 10 any day. You need to handle and Shoot an FNX 45 before crowning the sig. My FNX 45 does it all very well
