Do any of you guys have one of those Dillion primer tube fillers? They're like $300 and was wondering how well they work. I hate filling primer tubes and have been eyeballing one of these units. I'm curious how it flips them over and stacks them.

From what I have heard, they work pretty well. MidwayUSA use to sell a little machine that did the same thing and was only $35. Maybe if enough of us ask fo them to bring it back, they would. It was called Vibra-Prime.

You can now adjust the amount of vibration and they work better than they used to. You might look on youtube for "homemade vibraprime". The one's I've seen use part of a Lee hand machine and could be built on a budget.

+1 to this. This is probably your best bet without spending $300 or getting lucky and finding a real Frankford Arsenal Vibra-prime.

primer filler

I just bought extra filler tubes (10) and fill them all up at one time so I can load at least 1000 rds before I have to stop. By then I usually have to fill up the powder measure any way.
Also the was one of those for sale over at www.brianenos.com in the classifieds. You can also buy one through him is you like.

Mousegun: I have a friend who has more money then sense sometimes that I helped set up reloading. he wanted a Dillon like I have and I set him up with a basic package and he was happy with it. Now when Dillon's monthly blurb came out, he preceded to order every gadget Dillon sold including the Dillon Autoprime with a half dozen primer tubes. Well to make a short story long(pun intended), the Dillon Autoprime worked great, and is a super reloading tool timewise, but is way too expensive for my tastes. 300 bucks buys a lot of primers and bullets, besides I'm retired, what's time and I enjoy reloading. Rant over. :D

Vibra - Prime

Frankford Arsenal Vibra-Prime Automatic Primer Tube Filler is no longer in production.

I emailed Frankford Arsenal and told them there was a big demand for the Vibra Prime and they should make it again and they didn't have the class to email back.

Sig2009, FA has responded that its demand doesn't fit the manufacturing schedule. Basically it isn't profitable.

I've never used one but picking up primers seriously as bad as people make it out to be. I'd rather pick them up myself than spend $300 on a device that does it for me. $300 is 3 kegs of powder.

I have the dillon rf-100 and it works like a charm. i bought it used in a bulk supply buy, other wise I wouldnt have bought it. Funny though now that I have it I think if it broke, I would buy it again. Its just that easy. I reload around 1000-1200 a month.

I can't see spending the kind of money Dillon wants for the device. After I've loaded 3-400 rounds I'm ready for a break anyhow, this is a perfect time to refill the tubes.

This may be a dumb idea but they sell them in strips how about tubes?

Just tried the Lee hand prime mod for you Namancio. Tubes fit snug into plastic, and will need shimming to align the holes -just like in the linked Youtube videos.

I thought about the videos as I was priming some .223 brass a few hours ago. But I was only processing 20-30 pieces at a times showing my 2 yo what I was doing at each step . :)

And welcome to The High Road!

Primers in tubes

It is very likely dangerous. I've never experienced it myself, but I've heard of several instances of a primer stack going off. It seems fairly easy to do. Just have a primer jam in the slide and try to force it through seems to work. One goes off and fires the others.

Since the primer stack is in a safety shield tube, the force blasts upward harmlessly except for the ceiling. Some have recommended using a wood dowel as a primer follower instead of a metal rod in the tube to avoid impaling the ceiling.

I've never heard of physical harm from a primer tube explosion. At least no harm that couldn't be attended to with a change of underwear and a fifth of nerve medicine. But I'd be leery of having a bunch of primer stacks in a UPS truck bouncing down the road. :)

I too have heard storys like that but I've also heard that they have gone off around a 650's "wheel" so a strip would be just the same.

I have two Dillion RF-100s (one in small primer and one in large primer). I found both of these machines to be exceptional with no flipped primers at all. It really is a 'load and forget' machine. I have a Dillon Super 1050 that in one sitting I will usually crank out between 1000 -1500 rounds at a time, thus for that volume I found the RF-100 really is nice to have. Is the machine a 'must have'...no, I loaded the primer pickup tubes for quite some time, but then again a progressive machine isn't really a 'must have' as one certainly can load with a single stage. Thus, like a single stage vs a progressive press...it comes down to an individual's load volume against the amount of time and cost they wish to spend doing it.

Just my two cents (ok...1 1/2 cents).

Take Care,
Mike

Sorry I have to quote myself since I didn't specify I was using LNL primer tubers...
