Lee molds are the only kind I have ever used and I like them .
Anybody have a favorite they use for a Bulldog ?

I don't shoot 44's anymore, wish I had a mold number, but there are several available. Check Midwayusa.com as a possible source.

If you like Lee Molds, Try the RCBS or Redding dies, I prefer them Hands Down over Lee. They are about 50% more expensive, but they work a lot better as they are steel vs the Aluminum of Lee. Also, the Lee Molds have a shorter handle that RCBS, so you are closer to your work with Lee.

Sometimes you can't get the mold you want in RCBS and are forced into Lee, I have a couple in that category.

Good Luck
Dan

If all you've ever used is Lee molds you're in for a huge surprise.

RCBS or Lyman molds are great.

NOE, Arsenal, MP and other top tier mold makers are superb. As I replace my Lee molds with better molds I'll be dropping the Lee's.

The Lee 6 cavity molds are much better than the 2 cavity. I have never used a steel mold but when I bought some aluminum ones from night owl express and brass MP Molds, WOW what a difference over the Lee 2 cavities.
Here are some 50 cal hollow points I cast last week with a custom MP Mold.

Btw in answer to your question which most of use have ignored, I like the 640 style boolits for my 357 mags, though I don't own a bulldog. Unless you were asking brand and not boolit shape/style in which case you've been given great advice:)

Being better than the Lee 2 cavity mold is a pretty low bar.

Yeah, but a true statement none the less. I don't have any issues with the Lee 6 cavities, but the NOE and MP molds are great.

My Bullfog seems to like the following Lee molds in order of preference:

200 gr RFN
214 gr SWC
208 gr WC
172 gr RN
255 gr SWC
162 gr WC

As you see, the Dog will eat them all. It takes some time finding that "pet" load with each mold. Predominate powders I work with are:

Unique
Red Dot
Bullseye
Blue Dot
800X

Have fun!

I only have one .44 mold. It is the Lee 200 RNF which my bulldog seems quite happy with. I like standard weight for caliber bullets in general but when I bought the Bulldog I thought that a lighter weight bullet was logical to keep velocities up and recoil down in the lightweight gun. I filed the front sight down to regulate POI for the 200rnf and have been quite content.

Lee 208 Gr WC. I have shot many of them in .44 Spl CA Bulldog. Very accurate.

The Lee 208 grain "soup can" wadcutter is one of my favorite molds for light .44 Special loads, unfortunately I think it's been out of production for years.

I've got a Lyman 429348 .430" Diameter, 180 Grain Full Wadcutter mold that's also very accurate out of my Bulldog and S&W Model 29-2.

I think the Lyman Mold is still available.

I have an older lee 429-255 swc mold that i put a gas check in the mold when casting. It drops a 190 wadcutter with gascheck already installed. They shoot decent.

Can't help with the BD, I have a Redhawk and 14" Contender though that like most anything. I Wil however add that the 640 design is also one of my fav' s and most cast style that I shoot.

As mentioned above, Accurate, NOE, & MP molds are top of the line. I haven't found an issue with them yet. I also have plenty of the Lee molds as well and they are great for production casting. You might not get the exact one you want, but if it's in a 6 cavity you'll be making some bullets.

I like the Lee 240gr TLSWC. I have the 6-cavity I shimmed with aluminum tape to throw.431-432". I use Lee liquid Alox cut with Johnsons floor wax and a little mineral spirits. I size to .430".
I'm shooting them over 5.0-5.5gr of RedDot, GreenDot, Win231, or Bullseye through a S&W Mod-69. I also like the Lee 200gr RFN over similar powder charges. Mild and accurate.
I have both RCBS and Lyman 255gr Keith style bullets, and though they are excellent, to get poi/poa with sights, requires running them much faster than I enjoy shooting them. 10gr of Unique, 18.5gr # 2400, 22gr#296/H110 are a might unpleasant after a couple of cylinders full from a 5-shot cylinder 4"bbl gun.

The nice thing about a six cavity Lee is you normally get lots of different bullet diameters to try.

Absolutely hilarious, but sadly true!

Check the diameter of the cylinder throats of your Bulldog. I had fits with accuracy of some bullets in mine until I realized the throats measure .432". Once I discovered that, I started casting a 215 gr. SWC from a Lyman 429215 and running those bullets through a .432" sizer and things improved dramatically.
