Remington SPR453™ Autoloader 12 gauge shoots 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 shells. Trying to find a good shotgun. Wanted a Mossberg SP but all are on back order. Price is about $300.00 at Wal-mart. Any info is useful. Thanks

300? Wow, that sounds like a GOOD price! Academy has 'em for something like $485 IIRC. I think that's in camo finish, though. The 453 is respected and liked by waterfowl hunters. They are heavy and upland guys and clays shooters don't have a good opinion of 'em. But, I'm mostly a waterfowler and they're quite versatile as a waterfowl tool. I probably won't get one, though. I like my Mossberg pump and my Winchester auto for waterfowl and have a SxS 20 gauge I really like for upland birds.

Heavy, but reliable and well-balanced.

I don't think I'd get one if I had no specific, known use for 3.5" shells (same goes for any 3.5" gun), but they are pretty decent "working guns."

I used a borrowed one duck hunting a few weeks ago. Worked great and for the price you can't beat it Just keep the gas system clean and you will have no problems. Wish the walmarts near me stocked guns. I would buy two for myself at that price.

I am a waterfowler (Hence the screenname:D) My dogs are Chesapeake Bay Retrievers . I own both the original Baikal MP-153 and the Remmy Spartan 453. The Russian made weapon is the same, Remmy bought them and slapped the Sparten name on it. For the money you will not find a better all around shotty. I have killed deer/doves/ducks/geese all in the same week with it. And yes you can shoot trap and skeet with them also. Great weapon for the money. Don't forgot the 5 choke tubes you get with it! I used to hunt Bennelis and Franchi- sold them both since I never needed them after the MP-153. BC
