I'm trying to limit the types of powder I keep on hand. Right now, I'm only reloading .223, 9mm and 8x56R.

I use Unique for the 9mm and TAC for the .223. Has anyone loaded 8x56R with TAC and does anyone have any load data on this?

Thanks.

Did you consult the Ramshot Web Site?

Did you consult the maker of the bullets that you intend to use?

Seems like two good ideas, as the ground has been covered that way...
and pay attention to the source particulars as to what case they used to develop the load.

It would make sense to go to the website and select "contact" and either email or call the listed numbers with your question. They may be able to give you a starting load at least.
The Tac burn rate seems to suggest it's a viable choice but there is no positive data available, as far as I can tell, with Tac powder.
Good luck.

Ramshot TAC for 8x56R

There's a post over on surplusrifleforum.com about this; another user there posted some data sent to him by an employee at Ramshot.

To confirm if this data was still valid, I emailed Ramshot and got the exact same data... to help "spread the word" here is a copy of their reply:

We suggest the following.

Caliber: 8x56R Hungarian Mannlicher

Case capacity: 4.285cc/66.0grains

Pressure spec: <51488Psi

Applicable weapons: M30 (Austria) M31 (Hungary). (Also for the M95 straight pull Mannlicher)

Barrel length: 24”

Powder: Ramshot – X-Terminator.

Bullet weight: 195 to 210grains grains

Start load: 41.0grains (2250 – 2350 Ft/p/sec)

Maximum load: 45.0grains (2450 – 2550 Ft/p/sec)

Powder: Ramshot – TAC.

Bullet weight: 195 to 210grains grains

Start load: 42.0grains (2250 – 2350 Ft/p/sec)

Maximum load: 47.0grains (2450 - 2550Ft/p/sec)

NOTES:

It’ important to note that SAFETY is our prime concern therefore we strongly recommend.

1. TO ALWAYS BEGIN LOADING AT THE RECOMMENDED MINIMUM “START” LOAD.

2. If at all possible, measure the velocity and correlate with our data.

...I need to emphasize that I have NOT tested either of these loads. I have done some preliminary 8x56R test loads with 205 grain Hornady spire point .329" bullets, and IMR 4895, a powder slightly slower than Ramshot TAC, in increments up to 46 grains (Graf's Prvi brass and CCI large rifle primers, COL 2.995" +/- .006"). More detail on that test is here: http://www.mdshooters.com/showthread.php?t=10722
