So I came into possession of an Apex sear and RAM kit for the M&P. I tried to install it yesterday onto my M&P 40 compact and there's been a slight problem. I got the sear installed as well as the RAM (pin and spring) and put the pistol back together exactly as it originally was. Problem is that now when I'm pulling the trigger, there's no "click". I don't know why the firing pin is no longer engaging but I switched back to stock parts and it's still doing the same thing. I'm sure that there is something embarrassingly simple that I'm doing wrong but I'm failing to see it. As far as I can tell, I didn't lose any parts so I'm lost as to why I no longer have a functioning trigger. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. I know that Apex recommends a competent gunsmith for installing their parts but I'm (a) on a tight budget and (b) I'd rather mess up and learn to do the installs myself instead of being in the dark about my firearms. Just stating this because I know the "why didn't you take it to a gunsmith" questions wouldn't be far behind. Haha

Did you remember to flip up the little thing, down in the mag hole, that you are supposed to flip down for disassembly??

Yessir and I even loaded a magazine with a snap cap. Everything worked perfectly but just no "click" when pulling the trigger.

If you didn't force anything, you this should be recoverable. I had a heck of a time putting the hard sear and the USB in on my manual safety compact. Comes apart easier than it goes back together.

I accidentally put the original sear back in due to a phone call while working on this. Once I figured it out, it was much easier doing the R&R the second time.

Have you looked at the youtube videos out there to help you with the procedure?

Figured it out guys. Apparently I lost the almost microscopic sear spring and plunger. I'll be buying a new one and should be right as rain. Thanks for all the input.

Thats an easy thing to do. Those suckers are tiny. If you know where you dropped them you can use a magnet to pick them up.

Sounds like the time Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn took the alarm clock apart and were surprised that it did not run when they put it back together with only two parts left over.

Apex will drill your trigger housing for a larger and more positive sear spring and plunger set. S&W is using a larger plunger set now, too.

I'd suggest ordering a couple of spares.

I'm actually getting a free set from Apex. This will be my first dealing with them and I'm more than impressed with them as a company.

If I lose the springs again, I'll be sending the trigger housing in to them to be drilled for the larger spring and plunger. Then, I'll be ordering the spares.

Always a good idea to keep the sear housing assembly upright when drifting out the sear pin. No fun getting those parts back in there either.

Dan Burwell posted instructions sent to him on his web page that emphasized the above tip and I would recommend anyone attempting to work on an M&P take the time to read the "Burwell trigger job" info to become acquainted with the pistol's parts.
