For years, I've heard about "russian boar" being stocked on the Powderhorn, not far from my place. I've taken that with a grain of salt, though it has axis and other exotics and is a high fence ranch, un-hunted, too, weird. But, I found this link googling just curious....

Now, I know why all the pigs on my place are so friggin' fugly. There is another HUGE ranch between me and the Powderhorn, but it's been a while since 1939. :D

That is a good read... really makes me want to leave CT for the bacon fields of the South.

Likely a fair amount of genetic propagation over that 70 years too. Consider this was in an area with few (if any) feral pigs some 70 years ago. I have noticed that trait in pigs in the area (POC, Dewberry Island, etc).

Hello friends and neighbors // Same with the area around Murchison N.C. they released russian boar, red deer, elk onto a reserve about the same time period(late 30s) ........the only thing I've seen are the Russian boar(mix breed) and do they get big.

Haven't gotten one in my sights, my hunting license is only for South Carolina ....grrrr.....wish I was smart/wealthy enough to have gotten my lifetime hunting and fishing license when I lived in N.C.
