AR-15 Flattop w/EOtech 512 & riser, WILL FLIP UP BUIS work?

I've been asking guys at work and can't seem to get a straight answer. I have a Bushmaster AR with a flattop upper. I recently put an EOtech 512 with the riser on it. Does anyone make a flip down/up rear BUIS that will work with the riser on this configuration?

I'm not sure what the riser is, but the 512 is very similar to what I have on my flattop Colt M4. I've been issued a B/U rear sight, and I can easily use it in conjunction with my frontsight, even with a PEQ2 Laser mounted on the top rail of my hand guard.

I'm not sure of the brand of my gov issue cheapie, but I'd be willing to bet that any standard-height B/U would work.

Nope, never even heard of using a riser on a flat-top unless the riser is part of scope rings, and only on DM weapons in that case.

I'll make the "third time is the charm" on the question "why?". I'm a carry-handle purest, but I use an EOtech on my M4 because my BN says "every weapon has to have an optic". I can't see one reason why you'd even want a riser on anything other than a scope on a M16/M4 or civ equivalent. I have my EOtech on the flat rail zeroed to the point that I can make a ragged hole anywhere the dot in the center is aimed.

If your riser choice is because you don't like having the front sight post in your FOV, then I understand the reason behind having the optic higher, other than that, I'm puzzled.

With the logic for the riser being that you don't have your field of view "obstructed" by the front sight post (never had that problem, personally), I don't see how anything besides some special extra long BUIS set would work.

But if you're using flip up front and rear sights to allow their use with a riser, why use the riser at all?

Here is one on a LaRue riser with a Troy folder.

I like it very much. When you flip the sight up it is easily usable, but it's on the bottom 1/3 of the glass window rather than right in the middle.
It is nice to get the front post out of the way, that's what got me started using them.

Now, that said, the front post "almost" disappears anyway when you focus on the target, so their usefulness is iffy.
I needed it to clear the big ass Surefire handguard.

Still works fine for it's intended purpose, backup if the optic dies.

ARMS #40 works for me, but the optic is an old Aimpoint.

I think it's a solution for a problem that only some shooters have. If you're shooting two eyes open with an EOTech, a lot of people don't notice the front sights at all. Judging by the assorted sets ups with EOTechs I see different guys running on the flat range, I'd venture to guess that only a very small percentage of EOTech users find the riser to be necessary.

Not that I'm saying it's a bad idea for those people who want or need one. If the riser makes you a bit faster or more accurate with the EOTech, obviously it's a good thing.

This is very true. I don't even see the front post on mine.

Now, there are other uses for the risers.

One big reason is a Quick Disconnect mounting. The EoTech doesn't come with a QD but the LaRue riser does, among others.

And of course if you happen to have a PVS-14 you can mount that on the LaRue riser right behind the Eo

Some people have used the Aimpoint 3x on that little "hump" rail too but I haven't tried it.

I don't consider the LaRue to be a riser, though it obviously does elevate the optic a little. It's a QD mount first and foremost. When you were saying riser, I was thinking about some of the more drastic devices used to push the red dot up significantly.

The LaRue mount supposedly pushes the EoTech up just enough to do lower 1/3rd cowitness, which is pretty ideal. However, mounting it directly to the rail works too, since you won't see the front sight if you focus on the target.

I'm the exact opposite. I normally practice with irons since the EOTech makes it so easy. So when I turn the EOTech on, I still use irons more often than the EOTech. I think using the Larue mount would help, but I'm holding out on that untill I decide wether or not to use a FF forend. I have a YHM mount that I dont use because it only clamps at the rear of the riser, so that allows the front to move (you get what you pay for, the mount cost me about $30). If I get a FF forend I'll drill and countersink a hole in the front of the YHM mount and run the screw into the forend (I dont want to drill a hole in my upper).

I wish RRA would make an A1 version of the Domintor mount, or Larue would make a simular mount using their BUIS. That would be perfect IMO.
