Thinking about trading my Olympic Plinker for a 44 Desert Eagle. Both are pretty much stock--that seem like a decent deal?

I think the AR is much more useful but the DE is probably worth more $. Personally, unless you're just sick of your AR, or plan to sell the DE or keep it for collector value, I wouldn't do it.

If it were me, I'd rather have the AR. I love good, practical, functional weapons. Not to say the DE doesn't serve a purpose, I just believe that the AR is much more versatile. But remember, its YOUR choice, so just do what makes you happy. As far as practicality goes what's good for me might not be good for you. If you would shoot the .44 more than you do your AR, it would be more useful to you. Guns are like money, they aren't doing you any good just stashed away somewhere. Life is short, enjoy it!

Thanks, good feedback.

I'm a full blown AK nut at this point. I always wanted an AR and got one on a whim when I came into some extra cash. It's moderately fun, but the best use I got out of it was my six year old son can manage it with the stock retracted. I'm going to put adjustable stocks on at least one of the AKs and the CETME so we'll still have that basic practicality of long guns covered.

I've always sort of wanted a Desert Eagle but they seemed pretty expensive, so I sort of leapt before I looked. Now I'm wondering if I'll be able to trade it for something else I want when the fun wears off. :) Looks like that'll be the case. (unless I get a 50AE barrel for the monster-heh)

Thanks again for your responses.

Okay guys, we're talking an Oly Plinker, not a custom JP here ... money wise you're going to come out on top swapping for the Desert Eagle.

Thats a $450-$500 rifle for a $800-$900 pistol

I'd do it in an even trade in decent condition. If you tire of the DE, sell it and buy an even better AR maybe. I kind of want a DE in 357mag for some reason.

I would run out to the store today and BUY a brand new Oly Plinker to make this trade. The price disparity between the two items is staggering. The plinker is the absolute bottom end of AR-15s, it features a *plastic* reciever, the DE is one of the priciest production firearms around, and the .44 is the most desireable.

I have a desert eagle. And if you want one of the most fun, most attention grab bing, and one of the most accurate handguns you can get, get the Desert eagle. Its worth it. If your doubting the fun you can have with one. Fire it a few times with the remington umc loads. Its a 180 grain bullet. Lightest .44 mag load (bullet weight wise) that will function in the de. If a 4 foot long muzzle flash doesnt bring a smile to your face, get your pulse checked!

People on the DE forum shoot the desert eagles with the 6 inch barrel out to 50 yards and beyond. With some practice you can be pretty accurate at those long ranges. The DE is a bit ammo sensitive, in the fact that you have to run full power stuff through it. They give you a list of the ammo that has been tested by the factory to function reliably. Other than that, you have to test with stuff you buy. But the American eagle, the umc, and the WWB all function the DE fine. A heavy slide, quad recoil springs. and the gas operation require a heavy load, although recoil with the heavy loads is .38 special +p felt level. The recoil is different on the gun. Its a push back and up, than a pull back down onto target as the slide slams home. Theres also a specific way to hold the gun so it functions each time (its a timing sensitive due to rotating bolt) But its nothing hard to remember.) The company is a great company also. And you will find the quality on the DE is top notch.

Only functional problem i had with my DE was a bad mag. And recently the internal safety locked up. But thats a very rare occurance. MRI said a week to two weeks to fix the DE slide.

Money-wise, I would do it.

I would shoot a box of ammo through the DE just to say I did, clean it, and then sell it to the highest bidder. I would then use the money to fund the purchace of several other nice guns.

Those guns are just too Ghetto-Shiggity-Bling for my tastes.
