Has anyone heard of Atlantic Firearms' AR 15 M4 which they claim is California legal? It s chambered in 223 and doesn't have detachble magazines. http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976410435.htm
How reliable is this rifle? From my limited knowledge of the state law, pistol grips which protudes from the stock of centerfire rifles are also considered assault weapon.

Anyone in Cali bought this Cali legal approved (?) AR15?

TIA,
vega

Vega,

One of my friends purchased one about a year and a half ago. Runs like any other AR15 that I've driven except for the subtle differences of:

1) No detachable magazine
2) No bolt-catch

The quality that I've seen on a few (three) left a lot to be desired, but they're functional.

They are in fact NOT considered as a semi-automatic assault weapon in California. Our bans state that the offending firearms MUST have a detachable magazine. Since this animal is fixed, it does not fall into this category.

In all honesty, I didn't think it was all that bad and found it fun to shoot (almost like any other AR15). My friend enjoys his and that's what matters.

Yes these are legel, they are built on a fab 10 lower, the lower has a built-in ten round mag. the quality of thses lowers are in my opinion just ok. the finish looks like a sray can paint job.

Good part is you can build these using preban stocks and uppers and not fall under the 1994 assault weapons laws.

One more thing, each lower comes with a CA DOJ appoving letter, make sure you get this with your gun/lower

Looks like it's built on a FAB-10 lower, Check out www.fabten.com

The good news is, since it's NOT a detachable mag weapon, it can have all kinds of goodies, like a flash hider, retractable stock, bayonet lug, and even a grenede launcher.

It just has to have a barrel OAL legenth of 16" to not be considered an NFA 'short barreled rifle', and that's IT! Everything else is up to you.

The bad news of course, it's NOT a detachable mag weapon. :(

I wonder if a swing-away magazine, like the SKS, but with normal feed lips, could be condidered legal in CA. I think that if you had such a mag that could be quickly charged with stripper clips, you might have something. Or, maybe it would pivot out to the side, swinging from the bottom, to be charged (if you can visualize it).
