I have a MA compliant Bushmaster 16inch carbine that I do alot of 100yrd shooting with, but the trigger stinks it has a heavy pull, probably the 10lbs like the handguns sold in this state cause it's an "assault" rifle, anyway, any decent or cheap ways to improve the trigger pull.

15 minute AR trigger job

I did this on both my AR lowers. Cleaned things up right away.
Polishing the engagement surface on the trigger is important. Use a fine sharpening stone to remove the tool marks. Go LIGHT!. Too much will remove the hardening.
Then use a firm Dremel polishing wheel and either Flitz or JB's bore paste and polish to a smooth shiny finish.
Stay away from the shiny part of the hammer that engages the sear. Too difficult to try to clean up with out the proper tools.

The goal is to clean up the tool marks and smooth thing out. Don't mess with sear angles or do anything to change the take up.

Like Jimmy and jpwilly said, RRA NM trigger is your best bet. 4.5 lb 2 stage pull, easy to install. Best $100 you'll spend on your AR. Timneys, Jewels, Chip McCormicks, Giselles (sp?) will cost you a lot more than that.

I am quite partial to the Jard single-stage. I prefer the 3.5lb model - it's crisp but not too light for field use.

Zeke, I wanted to thank you for your link. I've been meaning to find it and print it out for about 3 years.

I do have one thought about the process, one which seems to have worked well with various other guns. Polishing compound is dirty and gets all over everything. There is an alternative product (which is cleaner but still has to be cleaned up) called a Cratex wheel which can be bought in various levels of coarseness. I've used these in the Fine and Extra Fine versions for years to do various polishing jobs and they are really nice. One can usually find them for sale at rock and gem shows and they are sold online in jewelry repair catalogs.

Just for reference, the RRA is not always 'drop in'. I had to do a small mount of stoning. I think I like the JP eneterprise better, as everything is adjusable.

YMMV
