Greetings,

Does the brake on an AR in .308 make a difference in recoil?

Thank you

Greetings,

How's the recoil of an AR in 308 with the muzzle brake (i.e.:DPMS sportical) compared to an AR in 223? Or maybe a ROMAK-3 in 7.62x54R?

Thank you

Recoil of a .308 AR-style rifle is very manageable without a brake; with a brake, it's probably on par with a .223 AR, though I can't say for certain since I've never fired a .308 AR with a brake.

Not much recoil on a 308 AR. The operating system and the weight of the rifle soak up a lot of it. I have owned two ARs in 308 and neither had a brake on it. even after a couple hundred rounds the recoil isn't uncomfortable. My neice at 5'6" and 110 pounds will fire two 20 round mags through my AR-10T and not complain. And there's no brake or even a flash supressor on the barrel.

Unless you have a need for super fast follow up shots from an unsupported firing position, I don't see a need for a muzzle brake on an AR-10.

brake

I have owned three Armalite AR 10s, two with brakes and one with out. Recoil was not tha much different. What was different was the noise. Muzzle brakes are LOUD!

I have two Armalite 308's, a 20" and a 16", and the recoil is less than my 30-30. What you feel more of is the force of the heavy bolt and bolt carrier returning to battery. The force of that murdered one scope on the 20" Seems some scopes don't like recoil in both directions.

Greetings,

What scope did you have?
I am planning to buy an AR in 308 and put a Burris Fullfield II or Nikon Buckmaster.

Thank you

Just a $90 Bushnell Trophy. After a while I noticed the focus started being off after each shot but not on the last one where the bolt locked back. Playing around with it I found that when I would release the bolt (after refocusing), the force of the bolt returning would throw the focus off again. After doing some reading (here as well as elsewhere) I found out that some scopes don't like the return recoil. I have since put an Elite on it but haven't had the chance to zero it in.

Hold an AR-15 bolt/bolt carrier in one hand and a AR-10 bolt/bolt carrier in the other and you'll find there's a huge weight difference.

Greetings,

I have the Trophy red Dot and it held its zero on an AK for forever.
I got an Elite scope and I had to return it to Bushnell because it could not hold the zero on my 500 S&W BFR while....a simple Tasco would be fine :banghead:

It is why I went away from Bushnell and decided to go Burris Fullfield and Nikon Buckmaster all the way.:D

Thank you
