Loading up some 110 grain bullets for the 300 Blackout, but the last round in the magazine won't feed. Gets caught on the feed ramp, any suggestions? 1000001285.jpg

The M4 feedramps aid in the feeding of a round from the mag into the chamber. They've become pretty much standard on all AR uppers.

I was wondering if the last round was having feed issues, from a mag issue or a running into the barrel extension.

I tried some .30 Carbine bullets in 300 BLK just to see if they would run, as I had some to use up, didn't work well.

Fortunately my son now has an M1 Carbine, so I can use them up, but I bought some more from RMR, so.......

Could be the front of the follower catching on something, could be a weak mag spring. Since its only the last round I'm betting its something in the mag not the rifle. Did you try other mags?
PMags seem to all have the same problem. I found an old aluminum Center Industries magazine that allows the last round to feed. Wish I hadn't loaded up on PMags.

Is there any difference in the two that could be causing the issue?

Feedlips, follower or the edge of the magazine?

Fortunately, suppressed, the Center Industries magazine misfeeds every round. Why on earth that would happen has me at a loss. Unsuppressed it runs fine, and holds the bolt back after the last round. The Pmag doesn't feed the last round suppressed or unsuppressed.

Different shaped followers, Pmags are polymer, Center is aluminum, there are differences, but I wouldn't know where to start.

I would start playing with ammo length. For a magazine to feed properly, there is a window of allowable ammunition length. Try shortening the COAL to allow the magazine feed lips to release the cartridge as it is going up the ramp.

I am thankful for the opportunity to discuss this here and get input as I worked through this issue.

In looking at the bullets that didn't feed and copper deposits on the feed ramps and differences in magazines, it appeared to me that the bullets were being directed too much towards the center. I took a dremel to the front outside edges of a Pmag so that the bullets would not need a pointier tip to direct them properly on the feed ramps. It seems to have corrected the issue, and I will modify a few magazines to use with these inexpensive bullets.

Again, thank you for your help. Just a response that illustrated the idea that someone had read the post and believed the problem was worth fixing, and not getting a bunch of feedback telling me not to try to modify a magazine was significant, all your responses are appreciated, this stuff can be pretty frustrating.

Glad you figured it out. While I usually adjust my ammo dimensions when this kind of thing happens, grinding on an inexpensive magazine works too 😎
