The AR I'm fixing to get is a flat top, and comes without a carrying handle (for what I'm paying that's a fair deal). I'm mounting my EOtech on it, but I'm trying to decide what exactly to do in terms of BUIS.

I'm currently looking at two options:

1) Mount a carrying handle on it, and use a cantilever mount putting the EOtech out ahead of the handle in the traditional "scout" configuration. This really shouldn't affect too much as the EOtech has a huge field of parallax free view. The main issue is that the carrying handle is about $100 or so, and the mount is another $100 or so. That's about double what most BUIS cost.

2) Mount a BUIS in the normal configuration just aft of the EOtech. BUIS in this case run about $100 or so.

If anyone knows of a cantilever mount for cheaper I'd appreciate it, as I've not had much luck finding any.

Secondly I've decided that I'm going with fixed, rather then flip up BUIS. I've found several that I like, but I'm trying to decide what to go with.

Does anyone have any experience with the HK style diopter ones? Or heck HK diopter sights for that matter. Without a matching front globe sight, it's just a series of different sized apertures to look through, rather then a true diopter sight correct?

The main traditional BUIS that I'm looking at is the Lewis Machine and Tool A2 style site. From what I can tell it keeps the same elevation over the barrel as the normal A2 carrying handle does, which is what I'm used to. Does anyone have any experience with them, good or bad?

Does anyone have any recommendations on other BUIS or setups?

Thanks,

Probably not the answer you're looking for from an economical standpoint, but I put a Troy folding BUIS on my Colt 6920:

Also picked up the Larue mount for the Eotech:

This raises the Eotech to the point where the line-of-sight for the iron sights is in the bottom third of the window.

Not sure why you'd want a fixed (non-folding) rear sight... seems it's always going to be in the way of the Eotech.

skip the carry handle and carry handle mounts.

i have to be honest here... i can't ever remember seeing anyone (hollywood notwithstanding) actually carry an AR using a carry handle. with or without a sling, go muzzle up or muzzle down, not horizontal.

Well it appears as though no one else likes having adjustable elevation on the rear sight.

The LaRue mount looks cool, but I don't see spending another $100 for a mount just to raise the EOTech. Part of the reason I want to have the rear site in the field of view is it's real easy to look over/through and if it's always in the same sight plane as the EOTech it's a real easy transition to go to irons if my EOTech dies on me.

You can get folding and fixed detachable rear sights that have adjustable elevation; but generally it is overrated unless you want to shoot past 300m with irons.

i say go with the flat top and no carry handle and catntiever monut. i am a fan of the flip up, and down. so they are out of the way when i am using the optics they are out of the way. i have little experience with the fixed buis but there are several out there that will fit the bill.btw the eotech is a great choice i have and love em.

I prefer a higher sight when I'm running an EOTECH.

I don't get the "co-witness" thing. People keep talking about it like its a good thing. To me its like trying to watch a movie with somebody's head right in your field of view. Gimme a post or gimme a dot, but fer chrissakes don't give me them both at the same time!

This one has the Rock River QD rail/sight. The front sight is a Yankee hill. The sight is upright in this pic, but I'd lower it just to keep it from snagging on things if I were operating the EOTECH.

The EOTECH is removable in less than 5 seconds. The whole kaboodle comes off in a flash, and a telescopic optic can be deployed.
