Just a short post to let you guys know of the velocities I got from Winchester White Box 40rd pack of .223 ammo out of my newest toy, a 10.3" AR pistol.

Shot
1. 2760
2. 2757
3. 2731
4. 2730
5. 2731
6. 2726

Avg Velocity 2739 fps.

And my newest toy...

CMMG 10.3" chrome plated barrel with A2 FS (Ordered complete upper)
M4 Type handguard/double shielded
M4 feed ramp cuts
A2 profile barrel under handguards
Numbered flatop upper
Rock River Arms buffer tube from entry stock
Standard CAR buffer and spring
Sling mount from ACE (Necessary to block the rear takedown spring)
Foam buffer tube sleeve from ACE
Lower Parts kit from CMMG
Pistol Lower from CMMG
100rd Beta C Mag.

And it works perfectly!! No FTF or FTE out of 150 rounds. No formal test of accuracy was done, but I can say it is minute of empty shotgun shell at 25 yards! :D

I'll post a review later.

I've got a question, and yes I do understand the law and I know this is illegal. I've never handled one of those AR pistols but I've always wondered if it's possible to attach a buttstock to one? :what: I have no plans to do this I'm just curious about the design.

Velocity measurements were made ten feet from the muzzle. Also the barrel is a 10.3" instead of a 10.5".

As for the buttstock, the buffer tube is one taken from a Rock River Arms Entry Stock, so although illegal, yes it would be possible.

However, I don't see any advantage since you can brace the buffer tube against your shouder, or put the side of your face against the buffer tube to help stabilize the pistol. That's where the foam sleeve from ACE really helps.

Red,

I always wondered how a sling would work with an AR pistol. Have you heard of the Steyr TMP?

Basically it's a machine pistol with regular grip and foregrip. You lock it by pulling back with the trigger grip and push forward with the forward grip to put tension on the platform. Then shove the whole gun and lock it forward against the sling with your arms.

I'll have to check into a sling, most likely something like a loop just attached to the rear sling mount. However, it is extremely comfortable to shoot by just bracing your cheek against the buffer tube extension and seems to offer some good stability.

A sling would work best with an optic since I doubt I could really use the peep sight at that distance away from the eye.

Addition to the AR family My 10 1/2" AR pistol is finally finished!!!

Yipee!!! ;) It is a Rock River Arms lower, with Model 1 upper(A3) and lower parts kit, with an Ace buffer tube(from an entry or car stock) with buffer tube sleeve and sling swivel....When I get the time I will post a pic of my Bushmaster M4gery little brother :) ! It looks just like yours though(minus the Beta mag :( )

Hey Red,

Would you do a fellow pistol builder a favor? Could you chrono some different types of ammo and post the results? Pretty please? I happen to have shot mine today for the first time....I am using Wolf for my break-in shooting since I can't seem to find any Winchester value packs anywhere within a 20 mile area of my home :banghead: ! I would be very curious to see what the Wolf chronos and maybe some of the heavier bullets also like the 77 gr or 62gr bullets  ...

PS I shot about a hundred rounds through my 10 1/2" ARpistol with no failures to feed, fire or eject...Loud...Little bit but my m4gery has a muzzlebrake so I am used to a good blast(they were pretty close though).Accuracy was good at 50 yards about twice moa with the wolf laquered cased( only reasonably priced 55gr ammo I could find at the time).Only 1 problem that I will blame on the need to break-in/ mate the parts more or the weaker Wolf ammo not cycling the bolt carrier fully. My bolt would only lock open on some of my last shots? Do you guys think I should just let the pieces break-in with normal use or should I try to maybe leave the bolt locked back for a while to weaken the brand new return spring? Last question should I( or can I) take the bolt carrier from my M4gery and use the bolt from my pistol to see if the pistol bolt carrier needs more break-in time and not the return spring? I hope those question make sense  , thanx guys...
