Are firearms your #1 hobby/activity?

depends on my mood at any given time but it is generaly #1 or #2 the other being plastic modeling of second world war aircraft. I tend to switch up every 6 months or so although season seems to have little to do with it.

Yup, and second place has been lapped 3 times around the track.

No ...

Hasn't been for many years ...

When it comes to firearms, I mostly focus on trying to constantly increase, enhance and refine my shooting & armorer's skills, as well as engage in frequent training, mostly from the perspective of it being a necessary daily living skill related to my work ...

I still engage in collecting some firearms, and blades, which aren't exactly 'necessary', however, and still get some enjoyment out of it, depending ... Although it's hard to completely eliminate the feeling that I'm mostly just adding 'tools' to an existing assortment, though ... ;)

I engage in hobbies for fun, relaxation and pure enjoyment ... which means for me nowadays reading, writing, martial arts, motorcycles, & cigars, to name some of them.

I used to really enjoy firearms as a hobby, though, when I was younger ... and always wanted to collect SA revolvers for the sheer pleasure of owning a piece of historical nostalgia ...

...meaning that shooting and guns dictate what you believe politically, socially...

I wouldn't say that, I'd say it's more like the other way around. Studying history and trying to actually learn from it (rather than repeating it), along with my social and political beliefs, dictate my actions, of which guns are an integral part.

My love for guns doesn't dictate my beliefs. I love guns because of my beliefs.

Hockey trumps guns by a long shot. The first is me going old-school with leather and deer-hair pads at a clinic in Rochester NY this past summer, the other is me at the Xcel center with the (at the time) president of the Wild after a buddy and I got to play with guys from the Wild. (I'm the guy in the red/white/black pads with the Russian jersey on)

I currently play weekly with the NHL alumni team here in Minnesota. :)

I have two long time interests. (40+ years)

I'm a stargazer. Astronomy is my first love. Whether naked eye, binoculars, or telescope. I love the night sky, and never go out after dark without at least checking out the constellations. Astronomy expands my mind, gives me an activity, and puts my daily problems in perspective. I could never live in a place where it doesn't get DARK at night. Unfortunately, to do all this, I need a clear night with little or no moonlight and usually, a night I can stay up LATE.

SO~ I target shoot with handguns much more. I get a lot of pleasure from being able to put the little holes right where I want them, and I also enjoy playing with the toys!

I have five leisure-time activities:

Shooting pistols

Shooting rifles

Shooting shotguns

Reloading to shoot pistols, rifles, and shotguns

Fishing

Guess I also should add that I hunt, so I can shoot pistols, rifles, and shotguns.

I have settled, I think, on a lifetime carry gun. A Glock 27 fits my needs, and I shoot it well. I have a few range toys, but prefer to shoot my carry gun. Better be a good shot with that one.

My 27 has been my carry gun for years. I have other firearms, but that one gets practiced with weekly.

I've been using my sig (tag line) since before you came on board, but it's still kinda funny about your handle, beach......;)

German Guns, German Cars(BMW Please), Irish Beer, and Scotch Whiskey. I also spen a lot of time looking for, and refining my idea of the perfect Mrs. Enfield(Redhead, supermodel, billionaire, Republican, Class III dealer, commited christian, nymphomaniac, whose father owns a small distillery that makes the best scotch known to man. I can also put up with a Brunette.)

It's kind of a spin-off for me. I'm a social/moral/religious history nut, and I've found it funy how mankind keeps repeating the same cycle.

I also believe that we are somewhere near the end of the Roman empire once again so to speak. I've realized that he with the nastiest/meanest weapon and disposistion wins the dispute.

Also I love anything mechanical. The how does it work? Whys it's made out of that? Kind of stuff.

I'd say guns are my #2 hobby, right behind reading.

Hey Grand Inquisitor-- Here's something that would combine BOTH your hobbies (Star Trek and shooting). My wife has from the 1960's a target shooting game with a Star Trek theme. Picture of the Enterprise with Kirk, Spock and I think McCoy inside a 9 inch or so target circle with points assigned to each ring. The target is metal and pasteboard, and is mean't to hang on a wall. Was made by Hasbro. Oddly enough you shoot at it with a miniature plastic red toy 1911A1 firing suction cup darts. I was never able to find it listed or pictured in any toy collector books, and it came to her in a mixed assortment box of games she got for Christmas in the 60's put together by the maker. Must have been unpopular or overrun stuff. Wish I had a digital camera available to show pictures.

There's some folks here with a heck of a lot of disposable income.

Me, I'm just trying to keep my 3-gun set fed....

FEED THE GUNS

chasing girls, clubbing, fixing/racing cars, guns, computers, bodybuilding, airsofting, psychology and social dynamics, I have so many hobbies that I don't have time or money for everything lol

WAITAMINIT!!! You guys are joking, right??? There are other things you can do besides guns? When did this happen, and why wasn't I told about it??

Never before , in the half century that I have been breathing, would I ever have thought that I would write what I am about to:

My number one hobby is my job! It is also my most expensive hobby. Let me explain. I became eligible to retire on October 5, 2005. So anything I do at work is basically because I like it enough, or maybe I should say tolerate it enough, to stay there. Sure I am staying to get a slightly higher pension in the long run but this is where my job also becomes my most expensive hobby sort of in a twisted way. By staying on the job I am now working for only 38% of my pay. Yes that is absolutely correct because, if I retired I would get a 62% pension right now. Since I would get that for nothing, I am getting paid only 38% for actually doing my job. That is expensive!

Since I am armed at all times I guess guns are a big part of my new number one hobby. Still though when it comes down to it, guns are not my main hoibby though they were when I was in my 20s. Right now my main hobby is keeping/breeding herps (reptiles & amphibians - not herpes). My number two hobby is probably the gun thing. Third is probably a combination of computer entertainment like this site (so sad, I spend too much time online). I guess the gun thing is number 2 over the computer thing only because I spend so much time on certain gun related sites.

I must point out that the gun thing is more, much more, than a hobby for me. As others have said, it is a way of life, yet I will also readily admit there are many aspects of it that fall into the hobby category for me. I am an active
2nd Amendment rights advocate. I like to shoot when I can - not as often as I would like though - not by a long shot. I taught my daughter and son to shoot, in that order. I just recently started taking my son Brendan hunting with me and with any luck will have the time to buy him his first Big Game license this weekend - he turned 16 today. Maybe a hunt this weekend.

We also are just beginning to dabble in a new hobby - metal detecting. Thar be treasure out thar to be found swabbies and I looks to find me some!

I have several hobbies myself too.
Guns, of course!
Restoring my '66 Mustang GT Fastback is one. But due to kids, bathroom remodel and other expenses, it has been on the back burner for 3 years now.
And I too do the plastic models. Mostly 1/32 anything aircraft related.
Here's one of my latest builds:

chasing girls, clubbing,

Nice to see that some guys still have that Neanderthal approach to getting women. Most guys now days actually try to talk to girls. But I can't imagine how friendly they are after they wake up with a bump on their heads.

Thanks! I've got a F-14 kit on the shelf to do the Jolly Rogers scheme too. These big kits get expensive. The F-14 was $125, decals and paint will set you back another $25. But the time involved is my way of letting everything in my brain go away and focus on the kit. SWIMBO doesn't understand, but it brings me a different kind of satisfaction than shooting does.
(BTW, last count I have 8 of the high end kits. If she ever finds out what these kits cost, I'm toast :what: )

Naw, family is #1...

Kids are only young once, so I try to spend as much time as possible with them. Of course, guns are incorporated into this-- range time, cleaning time, gunshows, etc. You get the idea.

I also enjoy entomology. Two of the kids and I make it a Friday night regular when its warm to go collect insects. Geeky-- yes. Fun-- yes. Nothing like the thrill of the hunt.

The family is also into scouting, camping, and TaeKwonDo. And church.

That pretty much sucks up all extra time.

Knowing ladies, she already does know. I love the F-4. My two favorite aircraft are both F-4's, the other the F4U Corsair.

I used to love modeling, but with three cats in the house I don't think it is possible... They do let us live with them, you know

First hobby, passion, semi-religion is trout fishing for me..
Guns are a way of life. Got wallet, underwear, glasses, 642 ...

That's a great F-4;magnificent bird. When I was a kid,Duke Cunningham was one of my heros and I built a handful of Showtime 100's so him falling from grace was a major disappointment.I like scale models too but I've only been able to finish a couple in the past year.My skills have really fallen by the wayside and when it comes to the increasing cost of kits and time that I have to spend on them,I've got frustrated that they're not up to the same standards as they were a few years ago. I did a Tamiya Otto Carius' Tiger that is sorta OK but my current project is to have a duo of Hobbycraft Argentine A-4's mounted on a base like they're skimming San Carlos Water and so far,so good.
