Just curious whether a new Standard model has a chf barrel.

That’s my only question.
I realize that they are quite durable and for me, this is academic, because I —-will order—- the “Buy Now” “Standard” tonight.

Original (only) question : Yes, or no ?

I don't know, but side question if a barrel has the small radial grooves all down the outside, is that indicative of a hammer forge? I dont know where I got that notion, but seems legit.

I remember 20 years ago it was a big selling point for rifle companies to say they used button rifled barrels and companies like Savage, Shilen, and Bergara made a big deal of telling you they used button rifled barrels, not the cheap mass production hammer forged barrels that their inferior competitors used. It was common knowledge then that hammer forging was the cheap way to mass produce a barrel but real target rifles used button rifling or the finest and most accurate barrels in the world were still cut rifled. Back then people asked on the internet if a rifle had a forged barrel so they would know not to buy it. If a company used a lowly forged barrel on their fine rifle they certainly didn’t advertise the fact. Then sometime about 10 or 15 years ago the marketing people flipped the script and started writing about how a cold hammer forged barrel wasn’t the cheapest way to make a barrel anymore but was now the best way. Now everyone needs to have a CHF barrel because it imparts properties into the steel that can’t be had any other way which increases the life of the rifling and has a mirror finish inside so its easier to clean and shoots more accurately to boot! In reality the technology for hammer forging barrels just incrementally improved so that it was now possible to make hammer forged barrels that were as accurate as button rifled, but it is still the cheapest way to rifle and profile a barrel and has been since WW2.

The gun arrived yesterday, nib. Only used about 25 rds. (Armscor and Lith "GGG" "7,62 N), trying to get it sighted in at 50 yards.

So far Very reliable, rock solid.

With the price of .308 ammo these days (for those who never got the .308 battle rifle/ammo bug Years ago), and owning a G3 'clone' PTR-91 Classic GI,
plus a first FAL, I'll never put thousands of rounds through any of these guns. A CHF or non-CHF barrel won't matter.

I doubt also that my Imbel FAL, a "SAR-4800", has a CHF barrel. Avoiding overheating is a critical factor for barrel life, which a few of the really young guys at the private club with ARs seem to forget at times.
