OK. So maybe they're a little chunky and the trigger isn't the greatest but I've had a P85 for over 15 years and never had a bit of trouble with it. It's been 100% reliable and shoots plenty accurate. In fact I'm considering picking up a new P95 to be a companion for it. After all, the price is considerably less than a S&W, Glock, or XD. Bill Ruger's stupid politics aside what else is the problem here?

I actually had a lemon KP345. I've never seen anyone else say anything bad, but I've heard a lot of good stuff about them. I've even considered getting another one...

I have a 345 and love it. Yes I think you can buy a "better" gun than a Ruger, but you have to spend alot more money . I think that the Rugers do very well and I am looking into the new SR9. I have a few Ruger firearms and none of them have dissapointed me. Good guns all around IMHO.

:barf: Hey you're right about one thing, Bill sr. was an elitist pig who thought he could corner the market after eliminating his competition through dirty underhanded lobbying and passing a few powerful restrictive laws. Ohh yeah, I forgot they just made their own 17-shot pistol didn't they, 27-years late.:barf: But really, Ruger the technology of twenty years ago, today and everyday......

I've only shot their rimfires, and I own a MKIII22/45, which might be my favorite handgun. An absolute dream to shoot.

Never had a bad Ruger. Only managed to break one. While qualifying, the mag release spring fell out and the mag dropped. Finished qualifying by holding the mag in with my weak hand and sent the gun back to Ruger. Sent it out Monday, FEDEX overnight and got it back Wednesday. They fixed it and sent it right out. Can't complain about that.

I own more Rugers than any other manufacturer if that means anything. Bill Ruger could have any politics he wanted. The only real complaint is high capacity mags for the Mini-14. Some people complain about Bill Ruger and want Chicom guns sold in the US. He still made (and they continue to make) great guns.

Yeah I think they are good guns for the money.
American made good quality. Good customer support.

And exactly what has Glock done new and innovative in the last 27 years?
Oh, thats right added finger grooves and the .45 GAP... :barf:

DENALI,
Every Ruger post I see lately you spew that same stuff. :banghead: You don't like Ruger fine ignore the thread! You know what? I don't own a Glock don't plan on buying one anytime soon. Can't remember the last time I opened a Glock thread. Cuz I don't care what people think about them.

My P89 and P90 have been 100% reliable, and my P90 is the single most accuirate .45ACP I have ever owned, and I have owned a bunch. So, heck yes, I think they are one of the most under-rated pistols out there. The new ones, the P345 and SR9, I am not so sure about. Have heard a lot of troubles with those two.

I love my rugers. I never have to worry if they are going to work. I never have to worry if i paid to much. And i never have to worry that i can't get a glock guy pissed off for liking them. Are the pretty NO, are the reliable Yes, are they mall ninja gods NO, are they fun to shoot YES, are they an elitist gun NO, are they the Ford f-150 of guns YES.

I currently own a 10/22, 22/45, P90, P97, and P345.

I have owned a P89, PC9, and SRH in .454 Casull/.45 Colt.

All have been flawless. My P90 is also the most accurate .45 I've ever shot. I routinely peeve my friends (who think they have to own $1000.00+ 1911's) when I outshoot them with my plain jane P90 using the cheapest ammo I can find. :)

I love their wheel guns but their autoloaders are way to big.
My first 9mm was a nice KP89 that I loved until I shot it in
a compition and then traded it and a chunk of change for a
new Kimber Custom in 98.

I will be getting a p95 in a few weeks.I saved a few hundred bucks because I was going to buy a glock 19,now I can buy my pocket gun a kel tec .380.I will have about 600 bucks into both guns.Hope they both are reliable guns.I will put 100 rounds thru the keltec then only one clip each time I go to the range because I don't want to wear it out,It is probley only a 2000 round pistol if that.

I don't think they're under rated at all. They're considered not the best but they're not considered trash either. I think they're reputation is accurate.

No,I think Rugers aren't really over nor under-rated. They work, are rugged and accurate enough for most things. However, they are bulky (why carry a RUger P-series when you can hide an UZI about just as well :neener: ), the trigger isn't exactly a head turner and the decocking lever isn't prefered by a lot of shooters. I own a P90 that's for range use (bought it used so Ruger didn't see any of my money...still hate the companies politics) and for what you could call a truck gun but for serious use, there are a lot better choices out there. Yes they are cheaper than a lot of others out there but for a weapon that I want to trust my life with, well, my family and myself are worth the extra insurance.;)

Thanks for all the input so far.
Here's the ones I'm looking at.

$300 delivered for a blued or $321 for a stainless gun made in the U.S.A.

Hopefully this doesn't turn into a your brand sucks kind of a thread. I'd just like some input as to what others think make a Ruger inferior to weapons at the next level in price (around $450-500).

I doubt I will be purchasing anymore of Ruger's weapons mainly because of the politics.

I bought a pistol that was designed for... Hitler's Army!

Oh, no!

That's got to be worse than buying a gun made by residents of one of the most pro-gun states in the US, right?

I don't know anyone who works for Ruger, but I don't have to. I DO know that punishing them for the late Bill Ruger's triangulation some years back is wrong.

Or maybe you should just buy a Norinco and support a pro-gun government.

picked up a P9 today at the show, and it feels GREAT - very much like a 1911 on a diet...

Ergonomics prevent me from buying a P-series.

I would have one if they fit my hands better. I was virtually unable to operate the controls of a P90 I handled. The safety/decocker was difficult to reach without breaking my grip and was too thin and flat, and the tiny tab of a magazine release (that you push forward) was also difficult. However, I've noticed over the years that virtually no P-series owner complains about their reliability. That is 90% of my criteria for what constitutes a good gun - but those of other makers do the other 10% better. ;)
