I posted this in the gen. section but didn't get a reply so I'll try here.

I'm in the market for a CZ bobwhite 20 gauge. The MSRP on the CZ site is $770.00. I'm used to paying quite a bit less then the MSRP for handguns so I was pretty surprised when I priced the shotgun at a gun shop I've bought guns from before and they quoted me a price of $779.00.

Is something fishy going on here or is that just the way it is with shotguns?

Thanks for your input.

there are several on gunsamerica for 675.00...ive bought many guns off of gunsamerica for less than the asking price and even negotiated shipping. you will have to determine wether after shipping and transfers you can beat that deal. i bought a 28 ga bobwhite a year ago sept on that site for 450.00 all included.

Depends on the gun and its popularity compared to its availability. Certain guns can be found much less than MSRP, some not. One question to ask yourself is this: if the gun is so much less than MSRP, that means no one is buying it. So why aren't they?

I suspect prices right after Christmas will be a little lower than right before Christmas as well as they try to clear out inventory before the end of the year for tax purposes

Thanks for the input guys.

I looked around on line and found some at Bud's for $670 and no shipping cost. With transfer fees here that would put it at 730ish. Not bad but not great.

The other guns I bought form the same store were about 100 or so below MSRP. Both were pretty popular guns (442 -no lock- and a LCP) so that's why I was thinking a shotgun listed at 770 MSRP would be in the mid 600's or a bit lower.

I guess I'll keep shoping around and I'll keep an eye on gunsamerica after Xmas and see what deals I can find.

BTW that's a smokin deal on the 28 gauge bobwhite!

Diggers...i bought it on a whim and now ive dove hunted with it for 2 seasons...is it a "top shelf" shotgun...nope....but i have no complaints......simple thing of right place right time and a quick finger on the "enter" button

Sweet. Yeah I'm not expecting top shelf, I have a O/U canvasback 12GA from CZ so I know what those guns are like. Mines a bit rough and a bit stiff but it works just fine.

I'll keep my enter button finger warm and limber. ;)

Prices on guns from europe have been changing on an almost daily basis, due to the exchange rates. The Euro has been fluctuating wildly, and the Dollar isn't exactly rock solid right now either.

I have bought two new shotguns, a Browning Citori and a Beretta 391 Urika 2, in the last couple of years at a local gunshop. Both were approximately $200 less than the MSRP.

Drue

Most local stores mark up guns about 10% over their actual cost. How much they pay can vary. Most gunmakers or wholesalers offer gunshops a big discount for buying in bulk. The bigger stores have an advantage because they can afford to buy a dozen shotguns at a time and the wholesaler will often give them 1 free whan they do this. A smaller shop, buying 1 gun at a time will get no special offers and pay more for their guns.

I pulled the trigger(s) :D today and bought from Buds. (Thanks rc) There was a little cash discount thing in the price shown so it was 20 bucks more so 680ish. No shipping and NO sales tax! :p With transfer fees and DROS fees it will come in around 740ish.
That's at least 100 bucks cheaper than if I bought it from a local store, which I find to be kinda crazy.
