Just a question of curiosity, but does anyone ever think twice about what they post in terms of pictures or statements or information about themselves on a public website such as this? :scrutiny:

Part two.. do you think this website is monitored by any official authority looking for ... whatever? :scrutiny:

I'm ambivalent about the paranoia factor, but I don't post much anything anymore because of certain over-zealotry that exists here. Especially in General Guns.

In regards to the gov't, I'm not worried. They can figure out whatever they need without the forum, I'm sure.

In regards to personal life, i.e. someone googling my name, not really worried about that either. We've all done stupid things, said stupid things, and I really don't have anything to hide. Plus, I'm self-employed, so I don't have to worry about my boss. ;)

I've posted enough personal stuff about me online over the years. Nothing negative has happened yet.

Nope. If the fascist requisition ever occurred, my name would pop up, as would anyone else who ever bought from a FFL. So why try and act sneaky when I'm already probably on a secret list?

It's just proper manners to never post anything online that you wouldn't say to a crowded room of strangers. Other than that, I wouldn't worry too much about active monitoring of online forums.

If the .gov is interested in you, they'll find your online musings - period. If not, they're off snooping into other folks stuff and are ignoring you.

The fact of the matter is that anything you post online is recorded. Even if THR was to go down and they destroy their databases Google and others archive the sites they spider, so there is still a record.

Does it bother me? No. I don't go around posting that I'm going to do anything illegal. Talking about guns and tactics isn't doing anything wrong.

That being said keep in mind that you are NOT anonymous on the Internet and what you post is recorded.

no. no. because I don't give out obviously idiotic information out on the internets. Im a jew with a gun. Good luck finding me among the rest of them :D

. <----a common dot like this planted on a forum page can actually be a pinhole camera through which...

I won't give particulars that could be used against me - in a tactical sense, anyway.

Well then you are concerned... or at least you've given it some thought.

There are two groups of people here who might be worried about their postings.

1. People doing illegal things now or previously.

2. People who might do something illegal or something that brings them into the public eye.

Stay out of those two camps and you should do fine.

The problem is #2 is not always predicted accuratly.

Nor sure actually.. ambivalent i guess would be a good word to use.

I think that here in a community (of sorts) where most people are like minded, people feel less inhibited to say or show things that they might not in a crowded room full of strangers. False security maybe.

Well here's another one for you... I've seen some posts which seem to be Trolls.. what do you think is up with that? Maybe that's what really got me thinking.

Now I'm not agreeing with this generalization at all. I think they're both valid points but I do not agree that they would be the only two groups.

What if someone was thinking about running for public office................................as a Democrat :D

I never post anything incriminating..... oh wait.... that's right ..... we are the GOOD guys here...... there is nothing illegal going on in my shooting world..... no reason to hide....
